Bedding

Might as well start another topic, since it is so fresh in my mind.

Old Bag bought a mattress cover and fitted double sheets for Toad. The two of us took turns making the bed in our 17B. I can tell you right now, wrestling the mattress cover around four separate cushions is a real chore. The mattress cover and bottom sheet have elastic around the perimeter. The problem is that the four separate pieces don't want to cooperate. And, the tightly fitted cushions have to be pressed into place in proper order.

I can now see the sense in having a single cushion ( mattress ). Wouldn't be able to set it up for dining, but I wouldn't have a half-hour struggle just because I had to get something from under the bench.

My inclination now is to have a mattress cover with no elastic that just sits on top and not to use a fitted bottom sheet.

Old Bag was bothered in that she couldn't do "hospital corners"

Re: Bedding

Hmmm....I purchased a foam mattress topper (3") that is supposed to fit a mattress. I was thinking that would make a firm "base" for both the mattress pad which was purchased to go on top of the topper, followed by the fitted sheet. You've got me wondering if this will work, or in the alternative, just use the 3 incher as a mattress for purposes of anchoring the rest of the aforementioned bedding.

Re: Bedding

We have a bit of a problem making up our permanent bed too. The issue is that the mattress almost fits too well. There is not too much issue with getting the fitted sheet on the mattress, but it is very tough to tuck the excess width of the duvet over the back edge, or the front edge against the cabinets and fridge. We are considering taking a good inch off the width of our mattress to facilitate this. Some folks have added an extra layer of foam on top, but we find the mattress as is quite comfy for now.

Re: Bedding

Custom fitted bedding is on my to-do list. I'm going to have a set of custom fitted sheets made. The top sheet will be sewed to the top edge of the bottom sheet at the bottom (ala water-bed sheet), that will greatly reduce the amount of extra bedding that needs to be tucked in. Here's a website that a number of Casita owners have used. The prices are reasonable and they will make your bedding out of any sheets you provide. So, if you like stripes you get stripes! At this point, they probably don't have a pattern for the Escape, but it isn't difficult to make one and send it. There may be a shop in your local area that does the same thing too: http://www.interiorcoachcreations.com/

Re: Bedding

We have a 3" egg crate topper for our trailer.

I use a double sheets.. Same set as from our Boler....(no mattress pad yet as we have the topper)

Our comforter is a single size (54" total in width) but I sewed a chuck of heavier stuff on the bottom to make it easier to tuck in and stay tucked in. The side by the wall I also sewed this chunk on and it folds not bad and tucks in with a bit of work but stays tucked in and keeps the bed looking tidier in the daytime.... (It was a woven placemat and a table runner that I used) This way I can't be accused of being a cover hog and there is enough to cover the mattress in the front and keep it looking tidy....

I did notice that the cushions do tend to kind of lift up a bit in the middle, but just a little bit. When sleeping on it I find it very comfortable. No feeling of the separate pieces....

I know eventually we will get a one piece mattress and glue the mattress topper on---but for the next couple years I think it will be fine....

Oh yeah, as for the little flip up counter. One night we slept with it down.. Bit of a PITA putting it down (just lifted up the mattress topper and bedding and it went on top of the cushions) but, the second night I just left it up and no problem with my feet touching it. No trouble with Doug climbing over me in the morning or in the middle of the night.....

The little flip up counter was a great spot to put the plug in clock so I could see the time in the middle of the night.....

Thanks for the link. I have a daughter who lives in Eugene, OR. I'll have to check the place out on my next visit.

Re: Bedding

Hi: amirie..."bit of a PITA putting it down" here's a tip. When you want to fold the extension up extend your whole arm under both of the latch/arms to bend them up and just lift slightly with your other arm to fold. To put it down just make sure you click the latch/arms in place or you may have extra "Time" in bed!!!
We have no night tables in the loft of "Our Escape Hatch" so no clock!!! Alf
