Bedding for 5.0 TA

Hi fellow campers! We will be picking up our 2017 Escape 5.0 next March and are wondering what would be the best bedding for the upstairs bedroom, LOL!
In our former 28 ft. trailer, we used sheets & comforter, but thought it might be difficult to make that up each morning with the height restrictions.
Any ideas? Not too keen on sleeping bags and Travasack went out of business.

The best part of having a dedicated sleeping area, is comfort. I sleep under 600 count Egyptian cotton sheets and "Mink." Then there's that electric blanket when it's truly cold.


I gave up sleeping bags when I moved from tenting. YMMV

Are you getting the Escape supplied mattress? Will you put a foam topper on it? I am considering a foam mattress or topper as they tend to sleep warmer after you're in the bed a few minutes. If it is cold the foam will be hard as a board until you mould into it. I also consider getting two or three of the gel foam 3 inch bed toppers and stacking them as the bed. I've been sleeping on foam mattresses and mattress toppers for many years now and am used to them.

Ditto. Have to have regular linens. Nice sheets and comforter. Bought sheets bigger than the bed, so that makes the sheets easier to put on (they fit another bed at home if we ever want to use them there). Bye, bye, tenting.

I loved our last tent and if we use it again, I'll use sleeping bags. Until then....

Travasac may be out, but RVSuperBag is still in business. They are expensive, but in both mine and my spouse's opinions, well worth it. We have a Travasac that we purchased when Camping World brought them back for a while. Both have removable/replaceable sheets so they can be washed, have a thicker "winter" side (just flip it over), and are easy and quick to straighten out in the morning. We have never had to use the winter side (or an electric blanket) even though we have done a fair amount of cold weather camping and find it extremely comfortable. If you have the standard sized queen bed, there is @ 13-inches on either side in the 5.0TA to maneuver. At least one member here is "single" and opted for a twin mattress and that may make it easier to make up the bed in the loft. I would not, however, put much creedence in any input provided by well meaning members who provide bedding advice if they are not 5.0TA owners. Making up the bed using sheets and blankets in the 5th wheel is a whole different animal than making the bed in any other model. That being said, there are people who use and love the Travasac/RVSuperBag, and there are others who use and love traditional sheets and blankets. I, in no way, find the Travasac to be like sleeping in a standard sleeping bag. We have tried both ways, and went with the one we (not necessarily others) found more convenient. As Donna says, YMMV.

Hi: RicVic... We use traditional bedding. Hand made quilt, cotton(Not Egyption) sheet and flanellette sheet. All 60X80 std. queen size. The ETI std. queen mattress I find is somewhat shaped into the front nose of the loft. The base is a smaller rectangle than the top so it fits into the wedged nose. We find the bedding stays tucked in, at the foot of the bed, so it's easy to spread flat in the morning... at least for my wife!!! Alf

I certainly have not given up tents, but it the only place I care to use sleeping bags at all. I love using good sheets and a duvet. I want zero restriction if possible when sleeping. Case in point, last night in our trailer I hung my feet over the end most of the night to regulate temps. It had cooled nicely this morning, and I was comfy cozy curled back up under the duvet.

We have gone to using a fairly light duvet, and if it is cold enough have a light wool blanket to add under it.

Oh, and we bought a really neat looking and colourful duvet cover to use, but are saving it for use in our 5.0 TA, and are not using it in our temp trailer.

Deb makes the bed so sheets blankets it is. However, when I go by my lonesome, it's a sleeping bag. I do need to pick up a big rectangle one though, the mummy is too restrictive when there is no need for a backpacking mummy.

No way could I manage to make the bed every day, at least to my wife's specs. I'm too big to maneuver around up there like she can. Getting the sheets taught, or at least wrinkleless when you have to be on top of the bed to make it, I'll never master.

Thanks, but I'd probably go for a double bag. Better get on the stick though, I have 2-3 weeks in Sept booked.

It's a polyester material that feels like the real thing.

We've found that having one of us in the loft and off to the side of the mattress allows the other one to pull the Escape issued mattress with memory-foam topper back a bout a foot from the camper nose, which makes it easier to install a fitted bottom sheet. Then the mattress can be pushed back and the rest of the tucking can be done from the foot. It's a bit awkward getting onto the mattress if it's pulled back first, but it can be done.

Once the bed is made and slept in, we don't worry much about daily maintenance. Just a smoothing out of the Newfoundland quilt works for us. We've installed a shortened fabric shower curtain across the back of the loft, which is usually pulled shut during the daytime. Out of sight, out of mind. This is camping and Martha Stewart seldom visits.

Different strokes... There is a Martha there every day in our trailer, that's why Martha is in charge of making the bed. Martha's cell mate is not so fussy.
