Talking to myself now.
So, I shaved off what silicon I could, from the metal belt buckle hardware, and then applied a blow torch. That didn't accomplish anything. Got out the Dremel and ground the silicon away. Used the Dremel and sanding wheels to carve away silicon on the elk horn and to make a depression for the buckle hardware. Mixed up fresh epoxy and fastened the elk horn. I plan to leave it to cure for a couple days ( it's a slow cure epoxy ).
Just glad I'm not having to go to these lengths to replace a vent on the trailer.
Which brings me back to butyl. Read the hazard warnings. I'm thinking it's safer to spend a month in Chernobyl than open a tube of butyl. Need to wear gloves, safety glasses with side shields, the list of precautions goes on and on.
