Bike Rack Extension

Hello All,
We do not currently have our 5.0TA with us and have purchased a new Thule Bike rack. Is anyone aware if we need an extension to fit the bike rack onto the hitch of the trailer. We were thinking the spare wheel may be in the way.
Thanks

I have a Thule 990 folding rack and plan in a day or two to fit it to my new 21 to find out if it will fit. I'll let post the results. Hint: using my calibrated guessometer, I'm not optimistic.

Thanks Greg,
Same Thule 990
Our trailer is in storage but on our way south for a month in September. Hoping to have everything figured out prior to the trip.

I would be quite hesitant to use an extension with any bike rack, as it would only add to the 'bouncing' forces that are already high on the back of a trailer. Hopefully you don't need it. I have used a Swagman and now the 1UP without needing anything further.

I added an 8 inch extender to my Swagman dual bike rack because I didn't want to keep futzing with the pedals hitting the spare. Works fine with this added clamping device:

Thule Racks Not For Trailers

On the last page of their instructions:

Consult with your Thule dealer if you have any
questions regarding the operations and limits of
Thule products. Review all instructions and warranty
information carefully.
• Not for use on trailers or towed vehicles.
• Not for offroad use.
• Keep bicycle tires away from hot exhaust

Thule 990 on Escape 5/0TA

We have a Thule 990 on our 5.0TA and don't have a clearance problem with the rack folded down, ready to use. The spare does prevent folding it up, but I can't imagine a case where we would need to pull the trailer any distance with the empty bike rack attached.
I agree that using an extension would add to the bounce, which is already too much.
I took some photos, but don't know how to attach them. If you send me a private message with your email address, I'll send them to you.

Great information.
You can always count on the Forum
Because I am a Junior Member I am not able to send our private email address.
I kind of like the idea of being Junior though.
We'll give it a try.
Thanks to all

Looks like we may be good to go on the Thule
Just found this
Can the Thule TH990XT Platform Bike Rack be Used on an RV

Question:
Can this product be used on an RV? Ive noticed that some products say not to use them on RVs, but this one didnt specify.

Expert Reply:
Thule has not approved any of their bike racks for use on the back of an RV yet. I doubt they will approve this one since it tilts down, which is not a good quality for RV use. There is extra jarring and bouncing associated with RVs and Fifth Wheels that also prevents many bike racks from being used on an RV or fifth wheel.

I have added a link to our RV hitch mounted bike racks. All of these racks have been approved for use on an RV hitch, including a couple of platform racks like the Thule TH990XT.
