Black Tank rinser - rigid or flexible?
On the new (2nd generation, post 2017) E19’s, is the black tank directly below the toilet, or is the pipe offset? I am looking to buy a tank rinser, and am trying to figure out if I am better to get the flexible one or the rigid one. Anyone have a view?

In any Escape model, of either generation, the toilet sits directly on top of the black tank so there is no pipe between the toilet and tank at all. The outlet of the toilet is the opening in the top of the tank, so a rigid rinser is suitable.

You will find that you're not inclined to use the rinser unless you are in a full service site, because you don't want to hold people up at a sani-station. And, generally, if you are at a full service site, you'll be preoccupied with packing up the trailer at the end of your stay.
I've used mine less than a half dozen times in ten years.
You need some method of holding the toilet trap open. If you let the trap close on the rinser, you can damage the seal. You'll want to use Saran or maybe an empty plastic bottle to keep from getting sprayed.
Reace altered my rinser, plugging up two of the 90 degree holes, and drilling a couple at 45 degrees so the spray would shoot upward and not just to the sides.
In any event, the rinser is cheap.

Not quite. The drain tube makes a couple of turns on its way to the black water tank in the 2nd Gen E21. I purchased a Valterra flexible wand.
I haven't found it to be a problem holding the flapper open with my right hand and guiding the flexible hose (you have to have the flexible hose on the E21) down through the passageway to the tank itself. I relax my hold on the flapper when I am in a fixed position, and go outside to see the contents of what is being flushed. When the water comes 'clear' I retract the wand just a bit and resume the procedure. I repeat this process of going forward and retracting until the water is clear. I was amazed how good a job the Valterra does compared to using just a garden hose.

“Because you don’t want to hold people up at the sani-station “
Very considerate, but there may be options when it’s time to give the tanks an extra through cleaning.
Build an at-home dump station or use a macerator.
A friend and I built one at his house many years ago. And then we moved
Here is a discussion of the options and methods from the Airstream forum.
Creating a home "dump station" - Airstream Forums
We traced the 4” PVC line from the house to almost the street then simply installed a T. All of this will be a function of your house design.
The internet and U-tube has lots of ideas.

I use a Johnny Chock to flush my tank. I put a small piece of pipe insulation on the wand to reduce spray back when cleaning the small amount of plumbing between the toilet and the tank.
I use it after every camping trip, which for me is easy as our development has a dump station that is very rarely used so I have lots of time.

Good catch - thanks . I don't know how they did this, since the tank is on top of the floor; is the tank extra-low, the toilet extra-high, or does the pipe from the toilet enter the curb side of the tank instead of the top?

Sounds like you folks are talking 2 different things, 1 the input and the other the output to the tank.

I'm talking about the input, through the toilet, which is what Jordan asked about. I assume that Telescopist is, too, given the description of the process. The output is an unreasonable approach to take for tank rinsing on the 21" due to the length of piping, and likely on any model due to elbows.

For those sanitizing their black tanks, are you offering tours after you're done?

would be nice if Escape added a black tank flush system , many of the
RV companies have this now , my Lance has one , makes life very easy
with regard to having a clean non odoriferous black tank.
Buying a new escape shortly will try and get them to install this (not yet on the
option list)
Also if others requested this might help
thanks in advance for any assistence

The problems with a black tank rinse are leaks, with the tank inside it can get messy. I installed one on my Lance 1880, very easy to do, but that tank was outside the trailer, not inside.

Thanks all - great discussion as always. Sounds like the rigid tank rinser is the way to go for the E19.
