Beats me. Not my experience at all.
I believe ETI switched to a different window/rock shield because the manufacturer discontinued the one they were using.
All I know is I've had no issues with mine.

Yes, I agree, the older style front sliders can leak, thus the change to non opening front windows by Escape.

They were actually changed due to changes with suppliers, and the old style rock guard was no longer available, plus the newer one is a lot more sleek looking.

I got one of the last front sliders, and never once had it leak, even in the pouring rain with the guard up.

Here are pictures of my front window and rock cover.
Had lots of heavy rain yesterday. In last picture the window itself is clear and there is a little water on the outside sill.
Hope there is something to learn for others with a front window.
As posted, I have no problems.
