CO Alarm (Detector)
Has anyone replaced their CO alarm yet? If so where did you get it and what model? I think mine is Model #60-541. Much to my surprise, I, need to replace it this month, according to the front label.
I don't know what is in it that fails to function after 3 years. It is hard wired, so it is not a battery. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

I had to replace mine when it started alarming in the middle of the night. I did so only because of the alarm, it had not yet expired. The only place I could find the white model was on eBay. As might be expected it came from somewhere out of Indiana. Since you do not indicate where you are from I am assuming the U.S.
I see the same guy is still selling them, 35-742 but he only has black listed. $65 with shipping, took a week.
As a sidelight the propane alarm went off while staging for a recent trip. It appears one of the 16 oz propane containers for our grill was leaking. It had been partially used and apparently not resealed properly when removed. As soon as I removed it from the front inside storage the alarm stopped.

All these alarms, CO, propane and smoke detectors have expiry dates on them and need to be replaced accordingly.
When you buy a new one, check the expiry date. I swear the smoke detector that I bought for home use was on sale because it was soon to expire, and I didn't notice.

Thanks for the replies. I guess that means I have to get a square recessed screw driver tip (or what ever it is called) and undo the wiring to boot. Hopefully it will go smoothly. I just checked the factory website. They are selling them for $69.00 not counting tax or shipping. California (where I am, is getting aggressive on the tax collecting biz.

The installation is straight forward, mine was installed with crimp on connectors. You will need the proper size (color coded) and to do the best job a crimping tool. Takes minutes.

I'm not sure I have one of those. Do they look like pliers? I know I don't have connectors. I do have wire nuts. Can those be used instead? Thank you for the info.

You can get a combo wire stripper/crimping tool at any hardware store, they do resemble pliers. Crimping is usually more secure than wire nuts, which could vibrate loose over time.

I too prefer crimping, but if you use a wire nut, and tape it, it should be just fine. I have a couple of those in my trailer, mostly where the wire sizes differed a lot. Soldering is another good method for connecting wires.

Muchas gracias. Do crimp on connectors look like tubes?

Yes they do. Take your old detector out and confirm they were using crimp on connectors. I noticed you had a different model number than mine, perhaps they changed over the years. Check the color of the connector and purchase the same for the new install.

My hint for any replacement of anything. Take pix of it in place and as you remove it so you can put it back together.

I suppose you read manuals too, baglo? Good to see you keeping in touch with your feminine side.
Truth be told, I do too.

Fellow photog friend of mine built his house with pictures. It was a Beaver Homes kit. He photographed everything on the model home and used the pix for reference.

I found this on Amazon:
MTI 35-742W White LP and Carbon Monoxide Flush Mount Detector
It is an exact replacement.

You would use an insulated crimp butt connector to join to wires. The color of the crimp connector corresponds to the wire size or guage (AWG).
Search Result
The crimping tool pliers usually include the wire stripper and are labeled to determine the correct opening for crimping and stripping the insulation off of the wire before inserting the wire into the connector and crimping.

Thanks for looking out for me, but I do not have the combo. Mine is CO only and is the surface mount. Since it is set in a cut out next to the compartment over the large dinette (my bed), I will need to get the same one. My propane detector is on the lower part of the driver's side large dinette bench.

Smoke CO detector expired
I've had my 2014 17B exactly 1 week and the smoke/co detector has been beeping periodically. Thanks to this forum I discovered the unit had a Sept 2013 expiration date! So, that will be one of the first replacements I buy for my Escape.

I had a similar problem with my smoke detector on my 2013 Escape (I think Escape must have gotten a bad batch of detectors from their supplier). After trying several sets of fresh batteries with no success, I eventually contacted Escape and they supplied me with a replacement detector. Once again, Escapes customer service was excellent.
