Re: Coffee makers + coffee grounds

I confess that I am a tea drinker, but Lindy loves a good cup of coffee in the morning. She uses a french press coffee maker she got from Starbucks. It is the four cup model here:

So far, the grounds go in the garbage.

I'm with jeffkoncz, sometimes you can't beat old school. The percolator brings back so many memories of camping as a kid, laying in the old canvas tent while Dad got up and put the coffee on and hearing the coffee start to slowly perc and ,perc and, perc and perc, perc, and perc, perc, perc, perc faster and faster, then the unmistakably aroma of coffee wafting through the air,oh yea can't beat it,camping is not the same without starting out the morning with percolated coffee.
Grounds are not a problem ,depending on were you are ,but they get scattered in the bush, they go in the garden at home.Or put into the trash .

We second the recommendation on the Clever Coffee Dripper. We hand grind our beans every morning in a Hario Slim grinder (Hario MSS-1B Mini Mill Slim Coffee Grinder: Kitchen & Dining: Amazon.com)

We heat water either on propane or electric and use the Clever Coffee Dripper (Amazon.com: Clever Coffee Dripper (L): Kitchen & Dining) to make a great cup of coffee and we decant into a wide mouth thermos made by Klean Kanteen which keeps the coffee hot for hours. (Amazon.com: Klean Kanteen Wide Mouth Insulated Water Bottle with Loop Cap: Sports & Outdoors)

This is a great way to start the day and no inverter needed.

Times 2 on the Aeropress. We discovered it on our last trip and like it so much we are now using it at home.

Times three on the Aeropress. We use it camping as well as at home. It does use more coffee but it is worth it. I also roast my own beans with a modified air popper.

In defense of the Melita cone filter system, there are instructions.
You pour the water over the grounds and allow them to sit a couple minutes to 'bloom' before you start pouring the rest of the water. And, you are not supposed to pour boiling water, but let it cool a few degrees first.
We use a #4 filter, a thermal carafe and propane.
So far, nobody has suggested we use charcoal.

Yet another thumbs up for the Aeropress. Great tasting coffee. Less than a minute to 'brew' once you've got hot water (kettle on stove). No grounds to worry about either, the quickest cleanup ever for making coffee. Only downside is that it does use about quite a bit more coffee.

Another vote for the aeropress. I use it for making espresso shots, so the consumption of grounds is similar to my machine at home. I then froth up some heated milk and boom....morning cappuccinos by the fire. I can't say I'm batting a 1000 on them at the moment, but most are pretty damn good. I also use the machine at work due to the fact that the coffee we get on the boats can be pretty sad.

I've also ended up with the aeropress. I've gone from Melitta to French Press to the clever coffee dripper. Through it all, I've used the same ss thermos for 35years! I just ordered a Porlex ss hand coffee grinder. Two things are important in camping - good coffee & good beer!

The Porlex is the grinder I use. It is my second manual grinder and it works WAY better than the first one. A really nice and even grind. Plus, it fits nicely in the AeroPress plunger for storage.

Total agreement on the coffee and beer.
