Command Hooks
Any suggestions on how to hang items on the vinyl wall material.
Has anyone have any experience hanging items using the 3M Command hooks on the vinyl wall material? The instructions imply that the surface should be smooth and hard. Seems to me that other hanging methods, like VHB tape, would work but would be hard to remove and leave a mark.
Thanks!

I have tried Command hooks - they stick to plywood and fiberglass but NOT the vinyl wall/head liner. They appear to stick to the liner but after driving down the road a ways they fall off.
I have used VHB tape successfully on the plywood and the vinyl wall/head liner - but I am quite sure it will not remove nicely. I used it to put up an Umbra 5 hook rack (on plywood) and a small Command bin (on the liner.)

The Command hooks seem to work better if the surface is cleaned with 95% iso-propyl (rubbing) alcohol before attaching. I've used them to attach small shelves to the cabinets at the foot of the bed in our 5.0 and they're still holding after 9 months.

I've used them with great success, but not on the vinyl head and wall liner.

I use a LOT of 3M VHB industrial tapes in my products. The Command retail series doesn't conform very well to anything but a smooth surface, plus the upper temp limit for the adhesive isn't very high. If your temp gets upwards of 100 degrees in storage or non-use it will probably fail.

Ok, I've been experimenting since I can't get the command hooks to stay on the headliner either! I'm hesitant to use the 3M VHB so I've replaced the pad on the hook that fell off with the waterproof version - will let you know if it stays on!

I'm curious. What purpose will this hook on the vinyl liner serve?
All mine are on the oak finish panels and the Old Bag says there are too many already.

3M makes an aerosol vinyl adhesive good to 300F. They also make another product to remove it. Problem with adhering to vinyl is the plasticizers that make it flexible.

Have no idea how to remove the hooks if you use this without damaging the vinyl

I could bring some tapes over and we could experiment on YOUR trailer!

The "wood" panels are in the wrong location to hang stuff according to the resident interior decorator.

I personally would avoid hanging any weight from the headliner material. The headliner is glued in place. It is possible that, especially during hot weather when the adhesive may have softened up a bit, the weight of whatever you are hanging could pull the headliner material loose. I seem to recall reports by others on this forum of loose headliner material present in their Escapes for one reason or another. I would hate for this to happen as a result of my own actions.

I'm in complete agreement with Dave on this issue. For every post I've ever read on any of the all molded towable forums asking about how to hang items from the "walls," there is also a question about how to glue the headliner back up!
Since these are not sticks 'n bricks homes, I don't think we should try to treat them like they are. Decorate differently!

Appears there are several types of VHB tape, which is best for use in the trailer? Any suggestions as to where to buy?
Thanks

I agree. Even if the headliner doesn't come off the wall, the facing could come apart from the backing.

Please forgive the storytelling but I can't help myself. This home owner comes home one night and finds the pointy end of a humongous nail protruding out through the stucco on the exterior of the garage. Apparently the other owner had picked up a 8” nail to hang something on inside the garage and couldn't find anything really solid behind the drywall, like a stud. This person was relieved to discover that the wall was solid about 4” behind the drywall, and then pounded the nail in a couple more inches to make sure it was really solid. Ouch!

Command hooks are great. I sprayed mine with krylon khaki plastic paint. I use 2 hooks inside the door for keys, 2 on the wall outside the bath for coats and hats, and 3on the inside of the bath door for towels (left them white).
