Cordless vacuum

Have a cordless 15.6v Dustbuster that we take with us camping. Fully charged it's good for about a minute of which about 10 seconds is at full power. Does anyone have a better one?

Brooms need not apply.

I use a Black and Decker that plugs into the 12V of the trailer or truck. It is way more powerful than any battery pack ones I have tried.

Bob, we also use a 12V Black and Decker, the PAV1200W. Although it's corded it's much more powerful and the snout folds away so it's compact and easy to store.

I have a Dyson stick which I bought mostly for the house (sand everywhere) but also use in the trailer. It holds a charge for a long time. I think they have a handheld, too. However, I don't really think it does that great a job. Fine on bare floor, not so great on carpet. It's just very convenient. Mine's not a newer model so YMMV.

I had that same Black and Decker. It is junk and I treated it as such. We purchased a Lithium powered Black and Decker 20 volt for our daughter and she has a similar complaint, short battery life.

Our fix has been to go corded. With a 1500 amp inverter or when on shore power we can easily use our Shark Rocket Corded. Great power, perhaps a slightly larger footprint. We also have a household Shark with the removable head, that would function just a well in the RV. You can get two uses out of one.

Ours is corded -- but 12 volt. I used it to clean up all the sawdust and construction mess from some recent interior mods I did, and it works great.

Thanks folks, we'll try the 12vdc route.

We use a Ryobi cordless vacuum that works surprisingly well. It lacks an extension handle like a broom style vac, but the small size of the trailer makes that fairly moot. Also it's great for sucking up flies and mosquitoes who try to hitch a ride or camp inside with us. Also, it uses the same interchangeable battery system as a whole mess of Ryobi power tools. We travel with the vacuum, a cordless inflator for car and bike tires, an LED lantern, a non-Ryobi hot glue gun that also uses the same batteries, and a 12V charger for the interchangeable batteries that they all run off. At home I have another dozen power tools that use the same battery system - decent quality tools at a fair price that all use same batteries and charger. Win! I'm seriously considering adding a small electric chainsaw from the same family to our travel kit after some backwoods navigational misadventures that required moving two downed trees to make passage. But that is a different story for another time.

I have the Ryobi chainsaw and love it. Have the vacuum, too, but haven't ever really used it as it just came in a multiple-tool set I bought years ago. I have the older blue tools mostly but use them with the newer lithium batteries.

We bought the Makita cordless. Uses the same batteries as my white cordless Lithium drill/Impact. We have had it for a couple of years now with no problems. It wasn't cheap but neither was buying two dirt devils and having the internal battery go bad.

We've had good results with the Black & Decker 20 volt Pivot model. Several Escape owners have this. We learned about it from another owner and are just passing this along. We have one for the house, too. Bought it on line, not finding it in stores. I hope this is not what Fudge Brownie had, since we like ours. Try one at a rally sometime before buying.
