Cracked spray insulation

Leaving for camping early tomorrow and while filing the fresh water tank I saw large cracks in the spray insulation under the tank, more inspection revealed cracks on the other side of the tank. It’s dark so I’ll take some pictures in the morning, just wished I saw this earlier. It’s not good if it’s just the spray cracking but it can be a disaster if the fresh water tank is loose. Anyone experienced this?

The spray foam looks like a lunar landscape, very rough and not smooth at all. The tanks are secured to the trailer, any cracks in the foam is cosmetic. road travel can take hunks out. Unless you see orange or yellow(that is the actual color of the foam before painting) it should be fine.

Pictures would help. If they are just superficial cracks it shouldn’t be an issue as it is closed cell foam (doesn’t absorb water).

When you say “large” do you mean long or wide?

I didn’t see any noticeable cracks in mine. Some small divots is about it.

I had very poor cell signal for the last week, attached are the pictures of the insulation cracks.

So the first 2 are from the street side and the last 2 the curb side?

I'd send these to Escape and see what they say....new trailer should not have those cracks.

As you fill the water tank does the foam seem to sag further? If so I would suspect the water tank was not secured properly and will have to be reattached.

I did sent the pictures to Escape, waiting for response. Filling the water tank does not make any visible difference.

I hope that is not the case. A full 28 gallon fresh water tank would weigh on the order of 250#.

My guess is it's entirely cosmetic and has nothing to do with the integrity of the tanks or pipes. Sometimes if the foam is applied very thickly it will cure unevenly. It adheres to the surface but as it ages it begins to shrink a bit and cracks develop. Honestly I would not worry about it.

Or buy a can of foam and just fill them in.

Yes, that's what Escape suggested and that's what I'll do. The only thing that I was concerned about was the water tank, I'm not even sure I need the insulation. I also found it strange that no one on the forum had a similar issue.

Foam may make the cracks worse, I would use black caulk to seal the cracks, that way repainting will not be needed.

I certainly hope touching those up takes care of it for you but I'd keep a close eye on it on future trips. Seems odd that the area around both ends of the tank has cracked foam.

Keep at it getting a answer from Escape . Looks to me something is stressing under the trailer especially a brand new trailer . We have the foam and there is nothing under the trailer like that , almost 6 years now . Pat

Agree, decided to call Escape on Monday and discuss the issue with someone having good knowledge of the trailer. The escape email I got suggested the cracks are "likely from traveling" seems odd after just few thousand miles of freeway travel.
