i just get enough threads to get it secure I'm sure its miss threaded but it is secure enough never had it come off. locking ring sounds easier but i don't have that option.

Make a starting mark
I had problems getting the lock ring started like most others. My solution was to look very closely at both threads and find the starting point of each thread. Then make a permanent aligning mark on the ring and base so the starting points are just about to engage.
This got me to about a 50/50 chance on the first try. That snap lock ring does look tempting.

Sometimes it's easier to get threads started if you lightly turn it in the opposite direction first.

Sometimes the 'threads' here are the same way Ron.

You won’t be sorry. I used to get frustrated trying to start the threads. The quick lock ring is so much faster and easier. I would never go back to the “old school” fully threaded lock ring. Ron is correct. Sometimes turning it backwards helped, but it doesn’t compare to the new ring. I am a fan of “easy.”

Which is why I decided the boat plug that is touted on here would not be good.

I just put it out there as an option...you could buy three of them for less the Escape wants for one socket. You could alway have a spare on hand.
Personally I like my cord attached to the trailer and not all 25 feet of it sitting in the mud. When I get my trailer I will take pictures of how I run my cord through a hatch so I can coil it up properly inside the trailer. Best features of both stock cord being attached and having a socket.

I don't camp in mud so have no issue with a dirty cord.
I had the fixed cord in my 19. After 4 years I stopped it out for a detachable one. Would never go back now.
Both work.

We actually carry two cords and at home or a campground is the only places cord would used . The places we camp I can't imagine a camper stealing your cord . Pat

We have always had a attached cord . Had to change because cord was extremely tangled and it was a pain in the ... the other attached cords were accessible in a box with a door . You could place cord back in . To just have the attached cord going Willy , nilly just didn't work because cord got very stiff in the cold and tangled at least in the 19 under the bed. Pat

Here is a sneak preview of my hatch modified to allow the cord through. The hatch is big enough opened up to coil the cord inside. Cord stays attached to the trailer and the extra stays clean and dry. Also allows room in the hatch area for water hose and extension cord etc.

My attached cord has never gotten tangled to the point that I would have to go in under the bench and untangle it. A couple times in nine years I've had to push it back in six inches and pull it back out.
The area it goes into has nothing else in it.

Ours was under the bed near the back . It wouldn't of been a problem under the bench like yours . Ours required you getting under the bed on your back and getting way under there . Felt like I was buried alive . Never again . Pat

Considered same .Didn't want to make a big hole in trailer . Also would of needed a box to contain cord . once found cord all the way to other side of trailer . Pat

The 30 ft cord that came with our Smart Plug system is perfect for plugging in at home . I bought just the Plug end and made another cord with the cut off Escape cord that is what we plug in at campgrounds . It is about 20 ft. We do carry the Smart Plug cord in the trailer just in case. We also have a extra 25 ft 30 amp extension cord we could purchase just the Plug end and make another cord if needed with that extension cord . Pat
