door entrance step

Since picking up our 2016 escape (21') last month, we are finding that the entrance door step is too narrow as well as too far a step down for me. We're thinking that two steps would be a better choice versus the single step that escape has installed. Has anyone replaced their step with a double step? If so, what did you replace it with, where did you get your replacement and what was required to do the changeover? One of our concerns with replacing it is that a double step would "stick out" much further when set up.

Is the reach too far between the trailer and the step? .. or between the step and the ground? If it is between the step and the ground, you may want to consider this adjustable platform step. It can be adjusted to different terrain if the trailer is parked on a slope.

I had a different step concern. We are a bit unsteady with steps - felt the step on our 19 was OK on height but, too narrow. It also seemed especially treacherous for our old dog Ben. He just didn't like the looks of it. I added the stick-on traction tread after Ben caught his nail in the metal step holes and nearly gave me a heart attack when he flipped over.

So I built this platform extension for our and his benefit. (Recently painted it yellow so he could see it better.)

You can also add indoor/outdoor carpet to the step by poking tie-wraps through the holes...

I purchased a Handi-step spa step from Amazon for getting in and out. It's portable but wide and stable giving you 3 steps total to get in or out. ( the spa steps give you 2 steps with the 3'rd the floor of your Escape. No installation necessary.

Same as Kevin with the Spa Steps. You do need somewhere to carry it when traveling. Weights next to nothing but it's bulkie.

We've had this one now for over a year, and are very pleased with it. Strong, and overbuilt. It's height is adjustable. Acts as the first step, about halfway between the ground and the trailer step. Very stable, large platform, and folds up for storage. Our little dog Coco likes it too, because she can now get into the trailer by herself.

We have the non-adjustable version of the same step (same platform, but folding fixed-length legs) and use it the same way. It is very well built, and if I needed to replace it (presumably due to loss, since it's hard to imagine breaking it... unless I drive over it) I would get the same adjustable model as above; it would be nice to accommodate uneven ground.

we did and it wasn't pretty. The previous owner had replaced the steps with just this unit on a 19'. we went back to the original step. Thanks Charlie!

I really like those spa steps. When the step on my Aliner didn't work well, I took it off and because I'm incredibly cheap, built a larger step out of 1 x 4s and deck boards... Heavy as heck, but you could put lots of stuff in it when it was upside down!

HaHa!! thats what i did, i then bought the one w/o the adg. legs, kinda like the one i have now. You can fold it down and carry while in tow inside door. W/O the adg. legs it is more stable. Carl

I don't see how it's more stable with or without adjustable legs. The stability is due to the fact that the legs flare outward. And, as Brain pointed out, on uneven ground, you could make a leg slightly shorter or longer than the others, to level it out.

we found that it was the first step going out that was to much. I cut a piece of 2x10 to fit on top of the step and that works for us. interesting how just 1.5 inches can make the difference.

We had the same issue, the step down to the top step was too longs.
I bought a couple of different double steps but nothing was right.
My wife, Carmella, found a exercise step at a garage sale. It is basically
a top step about 4 inches high and platforms you can add underneath
to make it different heights for exercise (step aerobics) sturdy, wide and long
and easy to carry. I just took off the regular step and we just use this
