I wonder why the roll pin isn't installed in the bottom piece and let gravity do it's work? Maybe they are installed upside down? I would remove the roll pin and reinstall with it on the bottom cap.

Some 3in1 oil. Mine are also starting to pit, I think it is the foreign made steel vs true stainless. Perhaps a marine place may have better hinges, something to research over the winter. At least we have pictures we can use now!

Hi: cpaharley2008... I believe the hinges are actually for walk in refers. The metal therefore may not be weather resistant.
After using my trusty can of 3in1... I gave them a polish with my tube of Autosol metal polish. A li'l dab'll do!!! Alf

Are we sure of what the metal is? Looks to me like it could be die cast zamak with a chrome finish. In which case the pitting is inevitable. Keeping it protected with wax will inhibit pitting.

I use a graphite or a dry silicon spray to lube with so as not to attract a buildup of foreign matter. Both are available at the Depot or any hardware store.

Hi Jim if the roll pin comes out (which it can't once it's pressed in) the pin or cap will fall out. With mine the cap disappeared from the top and the pin slipped down. Reace replaced it the new ones are fine with both containing pressed in roll pins. Thus I will have no more problems.

Cheers

Same thing happened to my top hinge. I pulled the pin all the way down and out and inserted it from the top to get home. It happened maybe 4 weeks after pick-up. ETI replaced the hinge under warranty.

I'm just trying to figure why would it not make sense to install the pin down and install the roll pin at the bottom to keep it in place and from going upwards, similar to a house hinge, the flat head is on the top.

What?......
You expect the manufacturers to be logical.

These may be a direct replacement. I have a set of these, the hinge pin is fixed with a solid flared end (no roll pin), you buy them specific for either a left or right application. I will check the set I have this weekend and see if they are a direct replacement Heavy Die-Cast Hinges - Lee Valley Tools

Please let us know if they fit, Ian. If they do, I may buy a set for "just in case."

I bought 2 sets for a teardrop trailer I was building (2 right & 2 left), seeing this post I grabbed them from my workshop and will carry the right hand pair with me, I always carry a bunch of spare parts anyway (habit from the Casita and the Boler). I will have my Escape out this weekend so I will let you know if they are the same.

Karen same thing happened to our trailer . Chroming is very thin . If you try to clean up with dremel it will remove the chroming . I was going to try and get them chromed again . I would get a extra set and then see if they can rechrome . Pat

I think you will find the cost for chroming very expensive, you can probably buy many sets of new hinges for the price of re-chroming one set. Re-chroming my bumper one small bumperette cost $75

That's been my experience also. The part has to have a fairly high value to make it worthwhile. Cheaper just to wax them when waxing the rest of the trailer. Unless you're close to salt water or salt air they shouldn't pit too quickly.

Hey guys the hinges hold your door . Kind of important . I bought a extra set from Tammy and there were not cheap about 60.00 . The new ones I purchased are also a lousy chroming job . If they could be redone and a better chroming that you could wax and get a better life out of them . I feel it is worth it . I am interested if the Lee Valley Tools having these hinges at a better price .Pat

Ian, do you know the brand? I had hoped to find some in stainless steel. Dang, so far this is the best I can come up with (US side): McMaster-Carr
