The green color shows that my service tank still has propane. When that tank goes empty, a red band will appear under the green band and it is very obvious. BTW, my tank cover lid flew off this last trip. Hope I can just buy a new lid and not the whole cover. Sorry the pic is out of focus as I forgot to put the camera on macro.

KarenH...Our top flap blew off as well and we had to buy a whole new cover. They're not that expensive but a waste of plastic.

Propane Tank Cover Lid
My local RV dealer had a lid for the propane tank cover in stock. Fourteen bucks, tax included. I'm a little confused about the part number as it's hand-written on mine but my conclusion is that it ends in 0543 (Camco).

Fox Hunt, on yours, the indicator is a bit different. It is still read and green, but faces towards the front of the trailer. It is a circle with some quadrants. Green if the current tank has propane, red if it is empty. you do need to remove the cover to see it.
Hope this makes senses

We err on the side of safety and never run the fridge on propane while traveling. We make sure the batteries are fully charged, cool the fridge down in advance, and run it on battery power while on the road. Works great for us. Might not work in Phoenix though.

Do this on the next one...
Drill two holes and use wire ties. Ours original is somewhere in Idaho. Comes with little black knobs. Amazon has as well.

We lost the propane tank cover also. Amazon sells replacement covers for under $10.
I drilled a 3/8" hole in the cover ,extended the threaded
rod that holds the tank down with a couple of rod couplings and put a bolt down through the cover and screwed it into the rod coupling.

Two ideas here, one is the cover is universal and can be installed 2 ways. Both of mine I installed with the latch screws facing the tow vehicle, screwed tight and have not lost any flaps. The cover itself can be lifted easliy so a bungee cord across the bottom secures it.
These covers are shipped inside the trailers and installed by either the owner or Dave, the delivery person. They can be reversed.

Yes, the key word is screwed tight. Not that I would ever forget...

Ok, one further question regarding driving while running the fridge on propane. Does it not matter that the fridge is not level while driving up and down hills? Do modern RV fridges not need to be perfectly level all the time? It seems that driving would cause the fridge to be constantly going in and out of level if you are on anything other than a Kansas highway, and I wonder if this is a bad thing? Especially for us in the mountainous PNW!
Thanks in advance to all you helpful responders!
Lisa

The trailer movement creates the needed impetus for the absorption system workings. Sitting still is hard on the system unless it is level and level means within a degree or so, as long as you are comfortable inside it should be okay.

The up/down/rocking motion of the fridge while traveling keeps the tubes from becoming blocked as happens with a fridge not level for hours. Think that's explained in the Dometic owners manual.
