Dumb question

On my Escape factory tv hookup there is a power button and 2 coaxial hookups, the bottom one is the one I use, what is the top one for? If it is of no use or a duplicate, I'm wondering if I can replace the entire assembly with one of these pictured below and have the extra 12v outlet??

The outlet with the switch comes from your antenna. The other one is for when you are connected to cable at an rv park.

I maybe mistaken but the bottom one also works when hooked up with cable? I'll have to check this out next time I have cable, thanks for the lead.

Hi: cpaharley...The push button is for the power amp for the antenna only. IMHO Alf

There may be different versions - the one I have also has two connectors, however the one that does not have a switch is connected to nothing internally. In the board for the amplifier are 2 inputs, one for the antenna & one for cable, which is how Escape made the connections. The switch "switches" them so I only use the one connector.

That is the way mine works too. There are two outlets but only the bottom one is functional. It took me a while to figure that out, and for a while I was convinced that there was a problem in the wiring.

So I should be able to remove the old one and purchase one of these which gives me the same performance plus an extra 12v outlet? found here http://compare.ebay.com/like/3308383...Types&var=sbar

If the current antenna amplifier is the same model as the one in your linked faceplate, it should work. If not, you may not have a way to connect to shore cable, or there may be a mismatch between the antenna & amp.

2nd connection may be a straight through connection for use with satellite. You can not run satellite through the amplifier as it will lose the signal and has to be run straight from the dish to the receiver.

No satellite connection on the exterior, maybe I'll ask the factory.

Can you take the cover off and see if there are two coax cables attached? If the button switches between the antenna and shore cable I would think it would have a splitter behind the plate for the one connection and the other connection would not be hooked up to anything.

Be careful pulling the cover - the amp (and the coax running to it) is connected to the cover. In my 17B the clearances were very tight when I pulled it.

Satellite would come in through the exterior cable connection. It would just bypass the amplifier inside and go to another connection inside.

Well maybe that is the answer, if I do not have satellite then the single coaxial is all I may ever need. I'm going to pull and take a looksey....

Mystery solved. The top connection is not connected to anything!! There are 3 inputs to the bottom coaxial with 2 being hooked up, one from the cable on the street side and the other coming from the antenna. There is a third one that is unhooked on the lower unit. It appears that all 3 on the lower are powered and if I recall the power has no effect on the cable input as I leave mine plugged into the lower and have used it both on cable and air, I just have to program the tv for which input I'm using. There is 12v going there to power the antenna booster. Jon is right, it is a tight fit and I'm not sure if I can pull it entirely out to unhook and reconnect another one. It is a Winegard unit so it should be compatible with the 12v model. This would allow me to plug tv and antenna into one unit and free up my second 12v below the tv for cell phone charging.

No satellite connection using the cable jack. I bypassed it entirely by passing a cable through the window to the receiver. Worked great. Not a good option though and I hate to drill a hole and fish a new cable.
