Electric awning rave & trip report

User error so don’t scoff. Camped a few days ago on proctor rd at base of Madera Canyon s of Tucson. Let me 1st say that it started sleeting when I drove up the canyon to check out bog springs cg. It didn’t look good so remembering boondocking on proctor rd & thinking lower elevation would be prudent I commenced driving this very rough road which entailed fording a creek. Found a lovely isolated campspot shared w bovines, deer & wonderful birds. Had a nice chilly evening til the rain started. Had put my awning out about 1/3 & it was doing nice job of keeping entry dry as well as draining rain. Well... after going to bed heard sleet & then saw the beautiful snowflakes. Awoke w terror when realized awning still out & more snow coming.

Tried to close awning after clearing awning w broom around midnight (in my nightgown no less). Alas it stopped working. Hemmed/hawed about what to do & looked up local mobile rv repair at 1:00am. Stressed but finally said oh well, what can I do & went to sleep. Awoke to clouds but then wonderful sun. Cleared more snow off awning & waited for the melt. That awning retracted like a dream! It healed itself, hallelujua.
Now to decide if the creek could be forded after all the precip so did recon & went up to Santa Rita lodge to bird. Creek was ford able. Saw many life birds there. acorn wood peckers, yellow eyed junco, blue throated hummingbird & many more.

So the origin of the story was how awesome this awning is!

But also how incredible this trip to see amazing Arizona has been. Have seen more escapes than ever before. Looking forward to exploring las cienegas refuge, karchner caverns & chiricahua mts. My favs so far on this trip; cathedral gorge, valley of fire, craggy wash, big bend of Colorado (even overflow is awesome), dome rock, kofa, organ pipe, Buenos Aires refuge but NOT casino Del sol in Tucson when I couldn’t get space at Gilbert Ray! Now at Gilbert Ray & it’s a beautiful cg.

Looking forward to las cienegas refuge, karchner caves & the Chiricahua mountains. Arizona is amazing even if the weather isn’t as expected.

If it happens again, there is a manual way of closing, if need be, with a socket wrench. Perhaps your main switch was off when it would not retract, or the batteries in the remote had been dislodged from the trip? I really like the new awning, one of the reasons for upgrading a slightly used Escape.

Thanks for your comment Jim. I believe a bunch of slush prevented it from closing but when that melted all was good. I love this awning!
