Escape 19 - Where and how do you store food, dishes, pots and pans?

Hello,

I am planning my first trip in my new to me 2016 Escape 19. Got the trailer in early December. The holidays and a knee surgery kept me from taking it out, but I can see the end of the physical therapy in about a month and then I will be cleared to go play!

I'm curious how folks have set up their kitchens for storing pots, pans, glasses, dishes, food, trash can, cleaning supplies, etc. without having to do much in the way of modifications right now. There are no modifications on this trailer-it is just as it came from the factory, with the basic set-up, except for the larger refrigerator. So, I guess I would also like to know a good place to store a small microwave.

Would love to see photos. I've been searching other posts and have run across modifications, but not this general question. If this has been answered and you can lead me to the thread, I'm most appreciative.

You want to keep your heavy items, pots and pans down low, either under the sink or under front dinette. Plates and cups can go in the overheads, 2 drawers for utensils. Canned food is along the bottom and light items in overheads.

Have folks used closet type organizers, small plastic tubs, bungee cords, or... to keep things organized and from moving when traveling? Where are hooks most useful in the kitchen area? Paper towel holder hacks?

Here's the kitchen area in my 17B. Paper towel holder is on underside of cabinet over the sink. It's held there with double sided tape and has been for nine years.
My knives store on a magnetic holder, again using double sided tape and screws.
I have a 3M Command hook to hang oven gloves and towel ( top left ).

We have those rubbery lattice shelf liners that will help items stay in place, for all kitchen cabinets. Trash can is a little one out all of the time on the floor across from the door. Kitchen cleaners are under the sink with pots, and some other cleaning items for exterior are down low. Cans in cabinet at floor level. Dishes and foodstuffs up high. Odds and ends in second kitchen drawer, utensils in first. Need trivets, too.

Pots and pan under the sink. Food (cans, packages, etc.) in long bins under the bed area (which I pull out if needed when traveling just to distribute the weight a bit). Dishes in overhead above the sink. Cleaning supplies are separate: some in bin under the bed (accessible through hatch in back) and some under dinette on passenger's side. I can send photos when I go out to the trailer tomorrow or Monday.

Our clothing is in foldable fabric bins in the overhead above the bed. Got the bins at Amazon (believe Target may have them as well). They're similar to: https://www.amazon.com/Freitec-Folda...+cloth+folding.

Key is put bigger items in first, them fit smaller items around them. Don’t forget there is significant jostling that goes on in any trailer. Keep that in mind relative to breakage, spillage and shifting. When in doubt put it in a bag or box.

we keep plates/ bowls and pots/pans and plastic storage containers overhead above galley. we have converted the hanging closet into a 3 shelf pantry. No need for "hanging" clothes. just fold or roll 'em up. we store all our clothes overhead above the bed. we travel 6 month of the year and pack clothes for every climate. we have no micro.

Yes, that micro place is a gem for storage, it is deep and large, great for bread, chips and other large perishable items. Could not use the 19 without that storage.

The one thing you can be absolutely certain of, no matter where you start putting items inside the cabinetry, you'll change it at least 10 times! Too, it depends on how you cook and camp. The best thing I did was to purchase small baskets to store spices. I'm 5'7", and can't see inside the upper cabinets. But I can grab a basket and bring it down to the counter. Too, I purchased some widgets from Charlie and double-decker the drawers. Instead of a big jumbled mess, they're neat and tidy and I can actually find what I want. Have fun!

Dishes in a drawer I built under stove, pots and pans in a drawer I built in our pantry. I'm in the middle of building another drawer to go above our dishes for silverware to utilize some wasted space.

The specifics of what and where to store you will find for yourself. I think heavy low lighter higher, used more close, used less far. Also as you set up cabinets make sure to protect the pipes and wires.

Also depending on your life will determine how much stuff you need. So less can be more.

Glen, is there a particular brand of double sided tape that you use? I've hung mine 3 times, and 3 times I've come back and found it lying on the counter. And that is with the camper just sitting.

I've used VHB tape to hang numerous items in my 21'. with good results. It's important to clean area to apply tape 1st. I use an alcohol prep pad to clean item and the location to be applied to. Then, I use a hair dryer to heat up the tape slightly and the surface to it's to be applied to. I have a large roll of VHB that I've used for the past several years. The roll stays inside the camper. I'll get the # when I go to the camper this a.m.
