Mentioning Escape quality issues on this forum will get you roasted like a republican at a democratic political convention. So we don't.

Hi padlin... I don't understand how ETI could use such "Carp" components in their quality trailers. Boggles my mind!!! Alf

I've noticed that myself. Escape Forum has become Escape Fan Club.

I don't see that. I've mentioned several, and was never roasted. Sure there are those who see any criticism as an indictment of the whole company. And there are those whose criticisms are constant and irritating - but both of those are in the minority.

It's because your tone and wording are not grating, unpleasant, and condescending, Robert. Thank you for that.

We're happy with our Escape -- Terry used the word "love" a lot this summer when referencing our 19 -- The company continues to be helpful to us personally -- -- and I'm devoted to this Forum -- but there is some truth to what tdf-Texas says.

When to the factory for a recent 3year check up. Got a couple small things fixed on the spot and had a nice chat with -the owner- about a larger concern. Easy and relaxed. I wish my car dealer was as good an experience.

This definitely started with the tone of trolling, but I'll bite.

I find the same, Robert. Most problems I have had I just take care of myself and don't bother to mention here as I am not looking for a solution. I have mentioned more than twice my disappointment with the new awning regarding it's rain performance, and never got flamed. I was also judging it's overall performance and everything else I am happy with. Other solutions I come looking for I have had some wonderful responses from members helping me find a solution.

I have said many times that I think that some components used, the same ones used throughout the RV industry, are not of good quality, at least a quality I would like. This is why I bothered to install what I wanted with no animosity at all to what Escape offers, but instead chose to have fun learning about, designing, sourcing materials, and modifying my trailer to include the things I wanted.

There have been lots of people that have had problems that the mass of folks are more than happy to help them out with. This is something I truly enjoy doing if I am able.

Great observation, Karen. The tone a complaint is put forward with make a HUGE difference to the reaction it gets. It is not the complaint some have been challenged on, but how that complaint is put. When it is written in spiteful anger, it will immediately grate on folks (admitted like me) as it already sets a negative tone to the discussion. When it problem is put forward in a more amiable fashion, the tone set is positive, which I believe is the best way to any solution.

I bit, I'm gone.

I've read many posts and replies on this forum that come with attitude. Both from the original poster and from those responding to the original post. Most often, frustration (attitude) comes when a reader chooses to reply to a comment without reading the entire post or misinterprets the original comment in their rush to reply.

As Jim points out, ETI does use some components that are common throughout the RV industry, but this is more than offset by the quality inherent in the fiberglass construction and by the fit and finish of the interior. The woodwork for example is outstanding compared to any standard travel trailer that I've ever seen and the good news is that it should stay that way because of the tight 2-piece fiberglass shell.

In an article that was posted in another thread the author pointed out how traditional builds are prone to getting shaken loose and mentioned the variable quality of things like welds that hold these "boxes on wheels" together (See http://www.escapeforum.org/forums/f3...tml#post217496)
"when the RV is finished on the assembly line, it is often driven hundreds, or thousands of miles before it reaches a dealership, which undoubtedly shakes a few things loose."
"The building process, and materials behind the walls and under the floors – the things you don’t see – are a big element of quality. One manufacturer might use thicker grade aluminum for the walls and when they weld the frame pieces together, they may do full-length, beautiful welds. Another brand might do a simple spot weld with the welding torch turned up to high, melting and scarring the thinner and cheaper grade aluminum used on their product. We saw it all, but these are the things you will never see on a dealer’s lot."
I've also thought about the usage of the common components and have come to the conclusion that it isn't necessarily a bad thing because these components may be easier to replace down the road than if ETI used all non-standard parts.

We are very happy with the quality and the obvious care that went into the construction. Were there any problems? Yes, with the standard water heater they used and we DID discuss it here, however, ETI support was great and helped us through it.

:
That's the plus side. For those of us used to yacht equipment RV equipment is cheap and low quality by comparison. But that's not ETI's fault,
it's just the way it is. It's nice that replacement parts are readily available but I'd be more happy if the the item was higher quality and less in need of replacement.

Saying that something is wrong with your Escape when you are a cheerleader for Escape, and having someone else make a complaint about theirs, are two very different things. Having a cheerleader go to the aid of someone else almost never happens --- just the opposite. That is what someone said above.

I have tried to side with complainers when they appeared to have a valid complaint even though I am another fan of the company. There have certainly been many valid complaints and Escape has benefitted from seeing them here since they then may address them. As a new company a few years ago, Escape had to learn as they went along. And they mostly learned from their customers. I am certain that they want to know those complaints so that they can address them because, as we have seen, they often do.
