Essential RV supplies?
Soon I’ll pick up my new Escape.
It seems the Escapes come equipped with just about everything needed for RVing, for example, the sewer hose and electric cord. So far, I bought a 25-foot plastic “drinking hose” at Walmart for the water supply.
Of course, I already have the usual stuff from the house: food, clothes, sleeping bag, toiletries, matches (to light the stove), my tool box, lawn chairs, cleaning supplies, flashlights, etc. I’ve got all my maps and tour books from CAA/AAA from whom I bought RV roadside assistance insurance. I don’t want to spend a lot of money or carry lots of unnecessary “stuff”—just the RV essentials.
What absolutely necessary RV essentials do l need to purchase before hitting the road?

I'm new to this myself, having just brought home our Escape in the last month (used not new), but there are a few things I would add to this, all gleaned from others posts on here and the fiberglassRV forum.
-An adapter for plugging in at your house (needed unless you have it wired with an RV outlet).
-An adapter for the RV parks that only have 50amp service (what the bigger RVs use).
-A heavy duty extension cord in case the site is badly configured.
-A clear elbow for dumping, so you can see when you're done/if the solids are actually coming through.
-An elbow for dumping that fits various dump site configurations.
-A pack of fridge bars. Don't store anything in the door while traveling.
-A water filter for drinking water. Attaches to the hose you already have, replace once a year.
-A water bandit so you can fill your fresh tank from the pumps in state parks.
-A toilet brush, because I gather the toilet gets dirty quite easily without a lot of water flushing debris away.
-A dish drainer and dishpan.
- Wheel chocks and leveling blocks.
- Emergency triangles or flares. Often a legal requirement for towing a trailer, which depends on the state. I believe WA technically requires it, but it's also just a good idea.
Also a lot of people recommend a second 25' drinking water hose in case the site is badly configured, and a separate hose for cleaning out the black tank. Personally I got the second hose for drinking water, but didn't bother with a black tank hose.
Hope this helps, and hopefully some old timers have some better ideas than mine!

I would add a 5 gallon plastic bucket for easily hauling water from the nearest campsite spiggot. You'd be surprised how often that will come in handy. Also works great as the perfect mobile storage container for small stuff.

Definitely need one of these before plugging in
GE 50542 Receptacle Tester, 3-Wire Light Improper Wiring Indicator - Amazon.com
this will test the cg electrical system to make sure your Escape is not damaged due to faulty wiring issues.

1. A sense of humor
2. A thirst for adventure
3. A camera
4. A journal for documenting your travels
5. A zero balance credit card so you can buy all those touristy things you don't really need
6. All the things previously mentioned by others.
Making memories, priceless!

Thanks Jim, but in all seriousness, I'd add...
A jack sufficient to change a tire on the trailer (and correct lug wrench). Double-check if you're planning to use the tug jack, don't assume.. you don't want to find yourself stranded because you can't lift the trailer high enough (or safe enough) to change a tire.
Murphy's Law always seems to follow....

Geez, Donna.... Just when I was admiring you and your way of thinking, you go and get all serious on me.
