Exterior propane quick disconnect

Hi all,

We have the exterior propane quick disconnect on our 5.0. I would like to use it to run to a Coleman propane stove, to replace my old naphtha stove (so I don't have to fill the darn thing so often!). I really don't want to haul around another propane tank, and I don't like the small 1 lb tanks (they seem environmentally suspicious to me). And after all, I did already pay for the exterior quick connect...

Does anyone know the size of the connector? The trailer is parked 50 km away, so I'm trying to avoid a long drive!

Does anyone know where to buy the hose in Canada? I don't see anything on the Canadian Tire website....

Thanks,

Sharon

Hi: shrncnddck... I would think your nearest Superior Propane Dealer would have all that you require. There might be an issue with the regulator on the stove as the pressure from the tanks is already regulated, but there again the Dealer should be able to help. If not I'm sure someone here will chime in. Alf

Re: Exterior propane quick disconnect

Easier to manage and good for the environment, compared to 1lb. propane tank, is a refillable 5lb. tank.

I run my BBQ off a 10 lb. but, I used to have a five.

No hose to trip over and you can put the stove where you want.

If you have a BBQ you can get a splitter to run both the stove and the Q, or you can get a "propane tree" which also has an outlet at the top that you can screw a propane lamp into. I had one of those, but didn't us it for the lamp feature, because the lamp was never where I needed it and it was too cumbersome to move.

Re: Exterior propane quick disconnect

The outside quick connect operates at about 1psi which is the operating pressure of all the interior appliances.

Camping stoves for use outdoors operate at aprox. 10psi. and will not operate at the lower pressure of the quick connect.

BBQ's operate at the lower pressure(flame has more shelter from the wind.) and will run fine off the quick connect that comes with the trailer provided you remove or bypass the BBQ regulator.

You can run the stove off the RV propane if you attach a "Y" to the tank in use and connect it to the camp stove regulator that is set for the higher pressure, aprox 10psi. My stove regulator hangs just below the tanks and connects to the "Y" with the standard small bottle fitting.

I have 2, 20 foot, 1/4" hoses, 1 for the BBQ and 1 for the stove. Hoses and "Y's" are available from RV shops or propane distributors. The propane shop had standard quick connect fittings made for propane. Both BBQ and stove have been working very well with this setup.

Cheers Mike

Re: Exterior propane quick disconnect

I do like Mike said. I replaced the regulator with a volume control on my Dickerson BBQ and run it off the low pressure hookup. It works great, and the hose stows away nicely, as does the small BBQ. I use a hose of the propane bottles for my Coleman stove. The two hoses take up less space than a couple of those small 1 lb bottles.
