First off can someone post an image of an outdoor sink you take with you if it's something other then a dish pan? 2nd, why an outdoor sink, is there an issue with using the indoor one? Is it like cooking outside instead of inside, just because you want to be outside?

Bob, for us it is just that, a plastic dish pan. I just much prefer being outside, and if I have to do dishes, I am going to make it as enjoyable as possible.

Thanks, that's what I thought might be the case. We did just that ob our old trailer, don't know why we stopped with this one, but we did.

I tried the plastic wash basin, but it melts when you heat the water on the butane stove.

If you want, next time we meet up, I can give you an extra metal pot we have that does the same thing. Or, you can use the water from our hot water heater (out of our conveniently placed exterior shower).

Actually, when we have just a few dishes, we have often heated water in the stock pot, and washed in it. Works great.

We never bother to rinse, and instead wipe the dishes dry right away.

Glenn for convenience maybe we could just drop our dishes off at Jim's trailer and pick them up once clean.

Reminds me of my grandfather who lived in a cabin off the grid, so to speak. When I visited I would offer to clean the dishes, and he would say, not to worry, cold water would take care of it.
On the second day I notice the dishes were not that clean and offered to wash them, thinking his eye sight was failing. He again said that cold water was fine. That night around the fire I started to play with his new puppy, I asked what his name was and he said "Coldwater"....

This is a very common pre-rinse for us. I bet you have done the same.

we use the heck outta ours. it's the outside water spigot, hot and cold, as well as a shower.

I also bought my outdoor shower set up. Parts from Amazon (where else?):

5' stainless steel flexible hose - in the package it feels very flexy. Also comes in 12' lengths.

Push button shutoff valve to facilitate Navy showers. Probably will plumb in at the base of shower head.

Safer-er-Grip Portable Shower Arm. There is no shower head as it shows on the box. Its a lever activated suction cup with a short arm to pass through the shower hose and settle down gripping the shower head - pretty cheap as in under $10. Expecting to stick it on a window rather than the FG shell. 3.25" diameter

ShowerFy 3 function Eco Shower Head - high pressure, low flow rate plus also has a shut off but not in a convenient location.

I have not tried out any of this stuff so am unable to make any recommendations. Will report when I have tried it out.


For a shower / privy curtain, I'm thinking of mounting some HDPE blocks under my solar panel frame. These blocks drilled out to something slightly over 1". They will support 1" anodized Al3 tubing, bent to a semicircle that can be pulled out to form a curtain rod .... out for showering and pushed in and locked for under way. I'll post my master piece design when it gets out of my brain.
