Falling Down Seat Cushion

Need the collective advice of Escapees. On our 19' Escape, the backrest cushion on the passenger side of the dinette does not like to stay put - it keeps coming down onto the seat cushion. This is an annoyance getting into and out of the seat.

I used two large Velcro pads that did the job until the hot weather set in. Then the adhesive on the cushion would soften and not hold the Velcro pads any longer. The pass on the wall held just fine. I'm looking for a better solution.

Two suggestions, to secure the Velcro pads to the cushion, were to use contract cement or Gorilla glue. I think the contract cement would be better than the Gorilla glue but would appreciate your advice. Or is there a better way to attach the Velcro? Better yet, has anyone used some other method to hold the backrest in place? Thanks!

Can you remove the cushion cover and sew the Velcro in place?

Hi: Laura & Rick...You could use a product called "No more nails" check at Ace Hdwe. or Lowes/Home Depot. It is a tape that's 1/16th." thick by 1/2" wide with a peel off backing. Just make sure everything lines up before you stickit!!!www.lepageproducts.com Alf

We did just that, used pads of Velcro, about 2"x3" and sewed the loop side to the cushion. It has worked fine for 2 summers now.

Remove the cover off the cushions, sew on the velcro patch with nylon thread criscrossed. Volia......cushions back on and it workd like a charm for us.

Okay, here's the end story to the falling seat cushion. After reading the replies, it looked like the easy way out was to use escape artist's No More Nails approach. However, No More Nails must be a Canadian product not sold in the US. I tried Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace Hardware and True Value. No luck. So onto Plan B - sew the Velcro on.

Looking at the back side material and from my Sea Scout marlinspike training, I knew that a regular sewing needle would not do the task. So, after a week and a few bucks (loonies), a local shop did the job. End result, no more falling seat back cushion. Thanks to all for your advice!

It's sewing for me. No More Nails was unavailable in my area. Just got back from a 3 day trip to Cannon Beach Oregon and the sewing job worked out fine.

We solved the cushion problem with... more cushions. A couple of throw cushions to be specific. They give extra back or lounging support, and when placed perpendicular at the forward end of the trailer, hold the back cushions still when traveling.

I had to ship a bunch of bubble wrap the other day...packed it plastic peanuts. Worked good, no damage on arrival.

It's been a few years for this topic. For those who sewed the Velcro to the cushion, how's the other half working out stuck to the wall?

We had this problem in our previous Scamps also. Plus, the straight upright back when the cushions WERE in place was uncomfortable for sitting.
Our solution was to get a couple of those swimming 'noodles' and lay them on the bottom cushion, then place the back cushions at an angle with the noodles keeping the bottom of the cushion spaced out a bit from the wall. Cushions stay put and the seating is more comfortable. Doesn't help while towing but we don't care if they fall over while traveling. Easy peasy.
