Fresh Water Drain Valve leaking

The petcock fresh water drain on my 2017 19' doesn't seem to completely shutoff lately. I move it around and can reduce the drip to occasionally but wonder if anyone has replaced that with something else. It doesn't seem to be leaking around the threads but in the valve itself. It looks to be maybe a 1" thread?

Could have some debris in the valve, seems trivial unless it drains your tank. Could stop on it's own, just continue turning it on and off, I believe it just goes 360 if my memory serves me correct.

Mine broke and it's super easy and inexpensive to replace. I bought another just like it, unscrewed the old one and screwed in the new one. I probably used some pipe thread tape on it, don't quite remember. New one never leaked. Just search online for RV fresh water drain valve and there are plenty of choices.

A few of us have replaced with high quality brass valves. It appears newer trailers have the drain on bottom versus low on the side. This will likely affect what your approach is.

Our threading on a 2010 19 tank was 1/2". I doubt this has changed.

I suggest consider that replacing the plastic valve with a brass valve may not be optimum. If road debris or other objects hit a plastic valve it may break, a brass valve may survive impact but result in tank damage instead. The plastic valve may serve as a weak link in the failure chain.
Just a thought.

Similar to the sacrificial anode in the water heater, it is there to take the abuse and replace easily.

Just read the other thread referenced above (I really did try and find a thread before posting mine...) and realize since I live where it freezes I'll go plastic and just order an extra one.

My plastic one leaks on occasion so when it does I take it off, take it apart and clean it. When I put it back together I "lube" the swivel part with warm coconut oil which solidifies at about 25C or lower and becomes a nice non toxic "grease" to keep it moving freely.

The thumb flipper on mine was split and finally broke off. I bought a new one for less than $5 at an RV dealer store. Took the old one off with a crescent wrench, screwed the new one in by hand. Got pretty tight and I’ve been using it without drips all season. Easy fix. The new one I got had an extra threaded bushing with it. Must be common to have two holes sizes depending upon who made the tank.
