Frig recovery

Made a silly mistake where reefer was off propane after a fill. Had turned off tank to refill but didn’t realize 2nd tank was off as well. This post is about how long frig needs to recover after heating up to high 50’s in 95 f degree heat. Mine is rm2354 dometic. Under solar power only took entire day to reach the 30’s. Lesson learned but glad to know parameters of recovery. Hope this might help others. But on the other hand, helped two separate gentlemen hitch their airstream and a pop up trailer when having problems hitching so redeemed myself.

When I have had similar experiences, I purchased some dry ice and put it in the refrigerator and it reduced the temp rather quickly.

The dry ice will bring the box temp down and keep the food cold but I think there’s a balance there because I doubt the fridge is running much when the dry ice is keeping things cool. Then the dry ice sublimates and the fridge has to take over. I sensed a “bounce” when that happens. Stopped in a
Smallish town in Nebraska a couple years ago and got a few groceries. Asked if they had dry ice. They did and the lady bagged up a brick for us. At the checkout they did not charge us. When we pointed that out they said “Oh there’s no charge, we do that for the ranchers who have a long drive home and don't bring a cooler.” By night we were in the Colorado mountains and it cooled off and everything leveled out.

I like to keep an eye on our fridge with a wireless thermometer. Records highs and lows of fridge and freezer.

The recovery time definitely depends heavily on which mode the fridge is in. With propane, it recovers relatively quickly - probably 3-6 hours depending. 120VAC is a bit worse, but still usable. 12VDC is basically just enough to maintain temperature.

Exterior and interior fans will also help a lot with the recovery time.

The time for returning to appropriate temp was on propane but it was very hot that day. Lessons learned the hard way. Yes I have that accutemp monitor.

Do you have the "Texas Fan" on the exterior? I think Escape stopped adding them because a better design supposedly made it not necessary, but I've had pretty good results from running it on hot days. Interior fan is probably worth it as well.
