Furnace won't fire

Hi all-

Been out in my new 17A a bunch of times this winter up at ski areas with plug ins, so I haven't had to use my furnace. Last weekend was at a resort that didn't have power, and the furnace was only blowing cold air- man that was a cold weekend... any ideas on how to troubleshoot the issue? Stove and refrigerator were both working, so gas seems not to be the issue. Blower on the furnace turns on and sounds like the igniter is firing, so not sure what to check next?

Thanks in advance-

Dave

furnace won't lite

Dave, Do you have a full propane tank? When my furnace began to blow cold air I knew I was out of propane in that tank. Switch over to the other tank if it has propane. The furnace should lite.

I thought of switching tanks, just couldn't imagine that I could have run through the first- I have used the stove and fridge so little, but I guess a little silly not to have tried it....

There can be many reasons the furnace won't light. One of them that is easy to check is your battery voltage. Too low, and the blower motor doesn't turn fast enough for the fan to close the sail switch. Cold weather will lower battery voltage, particularly in a 17 since they are outside...

Yes, there are several possible causes. Ours was caused by large black carbon flakes in the burner after only running the furnace from new about 3 times. Removed the cover, cleaned out the flakes, and haven't had an issue since.

a simpler issue to fix - if you have the air conditioner too is it has to be set correctly if its on the wrong setting the air conditioner goes on i think it needs to be on Auto? is that correct? it didn't seem intuitive but it was in the directions. i seem to remember someone else had this issue.

Is your fan stopping after a minute, or does it keep blowing? If the fan stops after a minute, there is likely a fault code showing on the circuit board. Here is a link to a post that describes the fault codes.

Quite a few people, myself included have had to replace the sail switch if the problem is fan related. Search the forum for sail switch and you will find lots of information.

Good Luck!

The problem is the linked thread is for the old furnace where the board to see the diagnostic LED was accessible behind the front cover. On the new furnace the LED board is at the back near the trailer wall and inaccessible to my knowledge unless ETI had supplied the optional access door on the trailer exterior.

We had the same issue after our daughter and SIL stayed in it one night. They complained that the fan just kept blowing but no hot air. We looked and couldn't find out what was wrong and then our RV technician came out and hit a reset button and all was well. (At least he said it was a reset button ... ) Whatever it was, it was inside the front plate of the furnace as he had the front off while working on it.
