Graphics on RV’s?

Why are there graphics on RV’s?

We don’t put graphics on our houses, so why does the North American RV industry insist on putting graphics on rolling houses?

Car manufactures don’t put graphics on vehicles (minus a pinstripe) and European RV/caravan manufactures mostly don’t use graphics. Two-tone paint schemes, sure, but graphics, not so much. Is it to hide blemishes?


This is a question about the industry as a whole and not ETI. I respect Escape for giving the consumer options.

I think the major reason that graphics are applied is for brand recognition.
You can specify colors or completely opt out on Escapes.

All the swoops and swirls that completely cover RV's now is what is baffling to me. I understand brand recognition, but it seems to be over the top now. Looking back at RV's from the 70's to today, the over abundance of graphics seem to be a semi recent trend.

Tee shirts, automobile dealers, horses, busses, trucks, water towers, office windows, arms, legs, geeze there's no escaping graphics. Horses? I draw the line with arms and legs, and horses.

Most RVs are just boxes on wheels. Large expanses of nothing really. The graphics suggest movement. Having seen photos of Escape 21s without graphics, I'll stick with graphics stuck on my trailer.

What baglo said. Many RV's would be big featureless boxes without some graphics. That and the fact that most of them are plain white. Tricks out an otherwise boring exterior. I know some don't care for them, but I prefer the Escape look with the graphics on them.

We kinda do put "graphics" on houses. Shutters, trim, rock, brick, stucco, custom fixtures, etc that lend to the appearance. Since it's not practical to do that to an RV, they slap on graphics.

I'm with those who like the graphics instead of a plain white box.

There are and there have been graphics on cars, trucks, locomotives, airplanes, motorcycles and just about everything else for over a hundred years. They are the manifestation of the designers and marketing concepts to complete and sell the look of the product. Fine firearms, fishing tackle, golf equipment, graphics are everywhere. If they do not meet the approval of the intended customers, they are eliminated or changed with evershifting trends, fads or whatever. "Nose art" on World War II planes is absolutely fascinating to me. It combines art, esprit de corps, and pop culture of the time. If one does not like graphics, the fine thing available to all owners is the opportunity and right to remove them, change them or from the memorable song of the sixties, "Paint it Black".

You and me both Dave. When I was a kid I had a little book in which I tried to duplicate all the different nose art I'd see. One of my favorite things is airshows featuring those old planes.

As Scoutmster we took the Scouts on several High Adventures, staying on military bases where we could. The Naval aircraft museum at Pensacola, an all day tour at Eglin AFB including the AC 130 Spectre gunship, an overnight stay on The Alabama in Mobile and their static aircraft display, Ellsworth AFB near Rapid City, Fort Knox, and finally Wright Patterson at Dayton Ohio. Two boys became naval aviators, one a commercial pilot for United, and one a cockpit display designer and programmer for numerous Boeing aircraft for Rockwell avionics ( my son Clay). And I pilot a Z turn mower in my doddering old age.

Speaking of car graphics, I always thought the Dodge Charger Super Bee graphic was the "Bee's Knees"!
