Ground Clearance
Hello Owners,
Does anyone know what the ground clearance at the lowest point is on the Escape 21 with and without the lift kit?
Thank you!

The axles will be the lowest point (sorry, don't have that measurement) and will be the same either way. The lift kit is a spacer on top of the axle that raises the shell but does not affect the axle height.

The lift kit is just spacers between the frame and axle. It doesn't raise the axle cross member which will I believe will remain the lowest point. The only way to raise the axle cross member is a steeper start angle on the Torflex axles, larger tires, or some combination.

Thank you. I have a steep driveway that I will be backing into. I am wanting to compare with my last trailers clearance. So, does anyone know how many inches the axel is off the ground? I appreciate the information on how the high lift kit works.

I don't think the axle height is the issue. It would be the distance from the lowest point at the hitch and at the rear.

That means that ground clearance is not an issue at all; your concern is with approach angle and (mostly) departure angle. The lift kit will help both.
The single easy-to-measure dimension for comparison would be the height of the bottom of the bumper, but that's not the whole story of departure angle because a longer trailer will need more height.

Exactly. I was just thinking about that. The back bumper is the issue. Any idea how many inches it is off the ground? Thanks!

Glenn is correct. Axle height doesn't change. The lowest point measurement at the hitch and at the rear does.
The measurement for both on a high lift 21' is 20.5". Without the high lift option, subtract 2.5" from both measurements.
If you have a steep driveway, you may want to order the high lift option.

I just measured mine, level with 19" clearance in front to ground and 21" at the rear bumper, level, but there is a sewer tube with 16" clearance right behind the axle and it is 27" forward of the rear bumper.

If you have not owned one before you may not know that the frame does jog up just behind the rear wheels for better departure angle at the rear. However there is also a 2 inch receiver that hangs below the bumper.

My after-market Hidden Hitch is what hits bottom, not the trailer, and there is nothing I can do to change that.
Driving a forest service road where they had dug small ditches across the road for drainage, I bottomed out twice before turning around. The trailer was back at camp.

This really helps out so much. I will be ordering an Escape 21 based upon your information. Again, thank you all!
