Half size range hood? ??
The stock range hood has gotten the most use in Lightning as a head bonger (ouch!)
Has anyone come across a half depth (~6") hood with fan? Maybe the marine guys?
Tempted to delete on next build regardless, whenever that is. Just asking for now.

I plan on not having one in my build, but installing one later. No way would I go without, should we actually cook inside.
Lots of nicer hoods available outside of North America.
This one forum Australia looks good, and they will ship.

Dometic has a couple solutions too.

I like the idea of the fan on the roof, as that would be WAY quieter.

On the Casita forums you will find many posts where people have either removed the range hood completely and added various vents, computer fans etc or some people have cut down the vent hood to a more compact size and reinstalled. I am presuming the vent hoods would be somewhat similar and it may give you some ideas.

We did without. Don't miss it. Light cooking inside, the smelly/greasy stuff cooks outside.

Easy enough to add later, if wanted. I bet if there were some more readily available that were sleeker, and not as bulky, they would be a bit sell. The biggest thing we use it for, is to remove moisture, and avoid condensation issues. Nice to draw it off straight above the stove.

The whistle on my tea kettle doesn't work well. I rely on the smoke detector to tell me the water is boiling.

These are the measurements: 28 x 40 x 5.6 cm - would they fit under the cabinet on the 21 footer? Thanks

We consider the stove vent and the oven two of the most important items on our trailer.
We cook, we cook a lot. We do the majority of our cooking on a coleman stove and weber grill outside, weather and season permitting. But when the weather is bad or pulling over for a hot lunch on a long travel day they are sure nice to have. Scott

Thanks for the links, everyone.
It's interesting that the Dometic CK 500 newly offered in North America is not the same model as anything offered by the Dometic UK site. I don't know what it costs, but I'm sure it's expensive, and I hope it isn't the 200+ UK Pounds (C$400+, US$300+) of the CK 400 from amazon.co.uk
The CK 500 is larger in both horizontal dimensions than the CK 400:
20.86 x 11.96 x 2.36 in (530 x 304 x 60 mm)
versus 400 x 280 x 56 mm for the CK 400.

This comment, and there have been other similar ones, leaves me shaking my head and, no, I don't bang it on the range hood. I've actually stood in front of it, put my hand on the back wall, moved my head around and never come close to hitting my head on it.
Well, different strokes for different folks I guess.

We get a little more deliberative in the winter. Talking about camping is almost as good as the real thing.

To clarify, because the comment about people banging their heads on the range fan has come up before.
Neither myself nor my wife, who are different heights, have ever banged our heads on the range hood. When I read the first of many comments made about banging one's head on the range hood and never having come close to doing that myself I thought "It must be when they're reaching for something at the back of the stove." So that's why I tried reaching across the stove to the side wall and seeing if my head hit the range hood. Nope, not even close. So I really don't think it's a good reason not to get one.

Just to repeat, children's stores and departments sell various kinds of pads for that. There are several places in the trailers where that might be a problem. Escape did round the corners on the newer ones so that is a big improvement.

I am 6'-0" (though don't think this is really a factor) and have never hit my head either. Plus, our cooktop and range hood were on the left (door) side of the galley, and it was more prominent there.
I think for most it is more about the visual of it.

That's it. I like the looks of it and having brighter light would be nice. Having a stove vent is a must for us. Scott
