Has anyone tried the cheap ebay cover?

Some weeks ago I posted about a lousy neighbor who has sprinklers set to come over a wall and 10ft onto the property where we park our Escape. I've tried to work with them, but they are not right and went ballistic on me. We don't have many options for storage and so have decided to get a cover. I've read about the pros and cons and the variety of opinions here and on other forums, and I understand the concern about dirt particulate acting like sandpaper. Since the nasty neighbors are renters and I know they hope to buy sometime soon, I view covering our Escape as a temporary situation. So... I'm not looking for a cover that costs a bundle and will last for 6 years (aka Calmark), but for one that will last a couple of years and stop the hard water from etching our Escape. Given all of that context, has anyone used the $150 cover on ebay? (I seem to recall someone discussing it on one of the forums, but searched and couldn't find any mention of it.) See:

Your trailer is brand new! For $100 more you can get a reputable one that will last!


We had an Adco for our RV and SUV. Sold the RV but the SUV is still going strong and we got it in 2002!

Why get a cheap one and end up spending more to get another down the road! Do it right the first time!

Just saying

Yes make sure the trailer is clean before you put the cover on...as the wind will cause the cover to rub. use the tie downs. The Adco has a felt like material on the inside.

What's in the tap water in California?
We get nothing but rain most of the year here in BC and my trailer spends all its time under a cedar tree. For all that, it doesn't look that bad after 6 years.
The cheapest and most effective cover for your trailer is a good quality wax. It doesn't trap moisture and it doesn't abrade the gel coat.

To answer your question, Yes, on my Eggcamper. Have never covered any of my Escapes, too hard to do. Just wash and wax it twice a year unless it needs more. The cheaper cover is lighter and easier to install, some quality covers are really heavy.

Thanks everyone for the replies.

Regarding the water: it's very hard and leaves hard water spots on the surface that can be near impossible to remove because over time etching occurs. I agree that a good coat of wax is best, but the hard water will still leave spots and one has to use an acid to get them off. I purchased a product designed to remove them and it works well, but you can only leave it on for up to one minute which tells you how harmful it can be.

BTW, my approach was "what can I do to help solve this problem...." And I offered to pay for sprinkler head replacement, turn them down, etc. and she went straight to the attack. I sure don't ever want her as my nurse!

We use the eBay Escape cover on our 17B. It's a perfectly acceptable cover, although lightweight and porous, obviously to allow moisture to evaporate. It has done a good job of preventing dirt and grit builds up over winter here. While we don't notice any water spots after using the cover, it's rain and snow only, not a neighbor's sprinkler. And the cover is actually quite durable, now heading into its third year. You will get small nicks and tears, regardless.

Used to have neighbors just like that. No sense trying to reason with the unreasonable. You might want to look into the municipal code for where you live. Most of them do have codes dealing with neighbors irrigation impeding on your property. Usually it falls under the nuisance clause. Just take it to code enforcement. They'll get rid of the problem -- one way or another.
