Wire cutters work, although I'd try a replacement too if you haven't.

It’s my batteries that are causing it. Pretty much verified that. [emoji4]

I might cut the alarm wires at some point, for sure!

I'm going to put a switch on mine. I use propane so seldom. I'll also put a tag on the tanks to remind me, when I turn on the propane to flip the switch to on for the alarm.

I should do that to ours. We had navy beans awhile back and set the thing off multiple times . The first couple times were funny, after that I ended up pulling it and cutting the power lead. It's still disconnected.

Our propane alarm went off this November. Trailer is winterized and batteries are external mount. On the front of the alarm it states: replace by 60 months after retail sale. Sale date stamped on the back of the unit is April 27, 2012. The new alarm will be disconnected during the winterizing, and hopefully this will double the life span.

When I bought my new propane alarm, I was concern that the date on the new unit was already six months old. The RV shop called the distributor who said the unit is good for five years after installation ( not from that date ). Once you connect to electricity it begins to be used up.
Rbryan posted a better technical description of what happens.
