Honda EU 2000 I gives E2 error
I'm testing my Honda EU 2000 with our 19. The surge protector is giving me band E2 code and I'm not getting power.
Anyone else experience this? What's the solution?
Thanks,
Dan

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. that did it. Unfortunately, our old EU 2000i just won't keep the AC going. Guess I'll have to look for more power.
Anyone tried the new EU 2200i?

yamaha 2400
My 2400 watt yamaha runs the Escape 21 just fine . I turn off the hot water elec and just use it for A/C .The only problem is the 2400 is 75 lb and its getting harder to pick up and move around . What is the Dometic A/C how many btu's is it 9200 or 11000?
Ive been thinking of buying a 9200 btu A/C for my boat which will run on a 2000watt genset Thats to bad theHonda won't run our dometic A/C

Yours or ours would be the perfect test bed around August to try the New EU2200 Honda generator. The extra 200 watts should be enough to do it. Or maybe have someone up around 7000 feet try it I agree the Yamaha EF2400iSHC is not an easy thing to move. I'm thinking of leaving ours in the garage to run the fridge and freezer or lend to family ( more likely ) as needed and picking up the new Honda if it will work.

They're not cheap at around $300, but installing a MicroAir EasyStart in your AC unit would allow your eu2000 to run the AC.

They may have a Dometic soft start type capacitor, but the EasyStart is not the same thing.

I just realized, I forgot to put the refrigerator on propane. I'll do another test with the fridge on propane and see how it goes.
I've been thinking about themicro-air soft start. There are some convincing YouTube videos on this. Before buying a bigger generator, I'll try the soft start.
I don need to be hoisting a heavier generator.

I have used the Honda EU 2000 with the Progressive bonded plug and it runs the A/C just fine leaving the EMS surge protection turned on. I run the fridge and water heater on propane when I run the A/C, and do not use the microwave.

There are several different products we're talking about here. Dometic has a softer starting AC unit that comes that way from the factory, which is supposed to reduce startup amps and reduce wear and tear on the compressor. That's a feature of the stock Dometic AC Escape uses I believe. Another one is Dometic's SmartStart II, which is a microprocessor controlled box which can reduce startup amps by 60% or so. It's runs well over $400 retail. Dometic claims it "may" allow you to run a 13.5K BTU AC with a 2000W generator. Then there's the MicroAir EasyStart, which will also run a 13.5K BTU AC with a 2000W generator, reduces startup amperage by as much as 75%, and has even run dual AC units on larger rigs with a single umbilical. In my research I think the MicroAir has more advanced features than the Dometic, but who's to say. The MicroAir has one other significant advantage over the Dometic SmartStart II, in that it's substantially less expensive. I've heard great things about their customer service as well.

Do you know the progressive part number for the bonded plug? If I can find it on their Amazon store, I'll have it shipped to somewhere along the trip we're starting tomorrow.
Thanks

It's very easy to just make your own. Pick up an Edison plug and run a wire (maybe 12 gauge) between the neutral and ground terminals. You only need an inch or so of wire. Close up the plug and you're done. Homemade gen plug for a couple dollars, and the EMS no longer senses unbonded neutral.

I made mine from Roberts guidance on a previous post. Think it cost about $3.99 and works like a charm.
Thanks again Robert.

Made a plug today. Coincidence, I bought the same plug RBryan is showing in his pics. Literally took less than 5 minutes.

From memory, I believe this is a grounding issue. If this is correct it most likely related to the “ floating ground. “ , which is a “feature “ of most, if not all Honda generators. You can check your Progressive and Honda manuals to confirm this. There are some wiring hacks on line for this problem; but, it may be easier to just using the by pass switch on the Progressive device.

Again, the EMS senses unbonded neutral. Bonding neutral to ground with a simple gen plug in an unused receptacle on the generator allows you to use the EMS with the generator.
