Eventually I'll probably get the inside lighted switch mod done for the hot water heater. But, it really isn't a big pain to use the outside switch. Ya gotta hookup to water anyway and the hatch is right there. Once you know where the switch is, flipping it is easy. I don't even need to see it, just feel it with my finger.

Tom, thanks for clarifying the valves' location on the 21. I thought the WH was under the bed but I wasn't sure. On the TA, it's in one of the dinette seats, very easy accessibility.

For those with the inside switch, did ETI install it or done after?

Many have asked with no success. But it's an easy mod to do.

Will they install a heavier guage of wire? Seems to me I read that it was better to have a heavier guage? What guage is recommended?

Escape installs the proper size wire . It meets the code and is sufficient for the load served and the length of the wire run.
Installing a larger wire serves no useful purpose . The water heater would be no more efficient nor would safety be improved by using a larger conductor . All a larger wire would do is needlessly increase the cost without any appreciable gain.

Is it difficult to install a wire from the existing heater switch to this new panel? As you can see, this is new territory for me. It will be so helpful to meet folks during the rally and see things up close and personal.

I too thought that ETI would not send out a trailer with the water heater valves in the bypass position but now with freezing temperatures, I'm not so sure. There is a very good diagram of the heater valves in the owners manual. And the switch outside could be in more of a convenient place. Loren

For those that have not done the mod yet you can always use the circuit breaker to turn the 120v power on or off to the 2 way water heater.

Of course you have to leave the exterior electric control switch on for this to work, but no different if you install a separate switch on the inside.

The switch on the water heater is shown in the heater's manual, in the Manuals section of the EscapeForum Files or Downloads collection. (Image snipped from manual is attached to this post).

The only Escape owner's manual that I see in the collection is Escape 19 Owners Manual 2012. The Escape website offers the current Owner's Manual, which shows the bypass valve configuration. Tom posted the diagram earlier.

I like digital copies of manuals, both in case the paper manuals are not handy, and because they can be searched for appropriate keywords to find specific information.

That was just confusion in the earlier discussion caused by an incorrectly labeled circuit breaker panel in one modified Escape. As Steve explained, there is no problem with the cable installed by the Escape factory.

The ETI website has a copy of the manual here, and a 51 minute video of the orientation here. It is obvious that ETI has put a Lot of effort and resources into producing this reference material, in addition to the various manufacturers manuals for the refrigerator, water heater, air conditioner, thermostat, etc. that come with the trailer. When we got our first trailer, I watched the orientation video half a dozen times before we picked up the trailer. It has been almost five years since we picked up our first Escape. But I still re-read the owners manual and watch the orientation video every now and again to refresh my memory

Sounds like something every Escape owner should do.

Hi: All... To add to the mix, our 5.0TA external elec. switch was made upside down. Reace did however, change it out at the rally in Osoyoos. It's location is why, once the tank is full of water, we leave it turned on. Alf

I leave all of the instruction sheets and manuals with the trailer. If something doesn't seem to be working, the answer is usually found very quickly. Loren

Alf......it's only upside down if you are not standing on your head or if you haven't been heavily into the Maker's Mark or some other equally tasty beverage!

I leave them in the trailer, as well. The ETI manual is in my lBooks library, so it is available any time. Same with any other manuals I can find in PDF form
