I agree, Jon does more than most will and 32 ah is heavy daily usage. We have two adults and two teenagers and fall within the 10-20 ah daily when out for 7-14 days.

Half of that usage is probably from percolating coffee in the morning, and toast.

So a theoretical 48 years? The life of the trailer?

Using the 32 Ah number, we could spend $625 on AGM's and be covered for 3,437 dry camping days. I'm pretty sure that our first set of AGM's will be running just fine long after we are done with this 19.
Otherwise, the only other benefit of lithium that I can see would be a 70# weight reduction and that certainly isn't worth an additional $1800 in up front cost.

I re-ran the numbers using an 80% DoD on the AGM's (550 cycles) and we still get ~3,000 camping days using Jon's number. Realistically, we're probably doing 50 dry camping days per year, so that gives us about 61 years.

On Paper that's a pretty good return on Investment.

How does Solar work ?

Here is a chart (note: extra equipment required for lithium not included):
Attachment 26387
In this model, the premium for lithium over AGM is $582, or 32% more, to deliver 320,000 AH over time. However, the upfront cost of lithium is obviously "much higher".
So, a key question to consider is how many years it would take to consume the 320,000 AH? Or, put another way, how long would it take before we'd need to purchase the second set of AGM's?
|
The only thing I'd add is that 2,000 cycles is the conservative minimum rated life for well treated lithium batteries. They are generally said to last 2,000 to 5,000 cycles, although the capacity declines as the cycles mount. This would change the the economics in favor of the lithiums. Having said that, if it's more capacity than needed or if you sold the trailer, you may cut the benefits of lithium considerably.
