I should have bought a replacement hinge for cupboards
This week - on the second day of long trip - our cupboard hinge snapped on both sides. The screws were not loose - it just snapped. Our third hardware store - a Lowes - had this particular hinge. Since it is a high cupboard with pressure to open and close, it wasn't possible to just wait until we got home. I will attach a picture of the old and new parts and the fixed cupboard. $3.98 for two of them in a package. The screws are Philips in new package - but I just used the old screws. (Ignore the little black tape on new hinge. Look at snapped edge that surrounded screws). ALSO - the new hinge is exactly the same color as the old hinge - their were choices - so this is the camera light.

Good finding the exact match.
Might want to pic up some more just in case.
If you still have the package, maybe you could take a close up picture of it for us to put on file.

I bought four and used one. If you can't read the picture I posted, let me know and I will try to figure out how to get a second picture of the package posted. When I tried to post another picture for you, it doesn't let me do it. I truly posted this to warn others, but if you can't see the package printing - I didn't succeed! Damn.

The package indicates a self-closing cabinet hinge. I’ve never seen a self-closing hinge in an Escape, which doesn’t mean much, except that the replacement might not be an exact replacement.

It is an exact replacement - even same color - all I had to do was place it up against the holes and replace the screws. We have an 2018 Escape 19.

Well, hopefully it doesn’t break in exactly the same way.

That Lowe's item number is 228957, https://www.lowes.com/pd/Style-Selec...inges/50419366.
Since there is a question of whether the original ETI hinge is self closing or not, Lowe's should have a similar hinge that is not self closing.

I bought a bunch of the same through Richelieu where I have a contractor account. They supply stores like Home Depot and Lowes.

No escaping the all important human factor here. Seems to me a clear case of defective manufacturing slipping by a quality inspector someplace along the factory assembly line, and then, the same thing happening again, when the guy at Escape was screwing down cabinet hinges assumed no hinge could be bad.

I couldn't find non self closing hinges that matched the ones for the bathroom door in my 17, but it wasn't difficult to remove the plastic part that made it self closing.
