Ideas...Heat and Long Term Parking... Summer Storage

It's Summer!

5.0 TA to be in storage... outside.... in Tennessee for weeks if not months.

Heat and Humidity.

I guess she will be over 100 degrees inside, daily, if she is closed up tight.

Even though we are down here in the south... she is not permitted to go swinin in the creek and no mint juleps!

Leave windows, vents, and or maxfan open? Or just close her up?

Solar should keep the batteries happy.

Ideas, thoughts, experiences?

Sun is your enemy. We built a pole barn just for that, and a cover would be great. Sunlight will oxidize your gelcoat and make things chalky over time.

Otherwise, I'd keep the vent open or if possible, close it all up and run a dehumidifier.

Interesting about the use of a dehumidifier. We have friends who own a park model trailer in Indio in California, which they live in over the winter but move back to Canada in the summer. In the desert, allowing everything to dry out in the high summer heat is disastrous. So as part of "summerizing" their trailer, they get a couple of very large water containers which they have small holes in at the top to allow some moisture to circulate as the heat slowly evaporates the water from the containers. This keeps sufficient moisture to prevent drying out.

I don't know what the answer is, but there are a fair amount of wood products in an Escape trailer, and some small amount of moisture might be beneficial.

Honair,
I keep my 21' in covered storage year-round except when camping. I leave the maxfan open a couple of inches to allow heat to escape and to get some air in the camper. Click image for larger version

I haven't had any problems with moisture. Make sure you keep water in the commode to prevent the seal from drying out.

I don't use mine in the summer either, 1st trip is in 2 weeks. I use a Calmark cover and leave the Maxxfan open. If we get a long wet spell I fire up the dehumidifer for a day.

I have been leaving my 21 outside in the sun. I leave the roof vent cracked open. The solar panels keep the batteries charged alright, but check the water levels in the batteries periodically.

I'm preparing a pole barn to cover the trailer but for the most part I try to stay gone in the summer. That's why I bought the trailer to begin with.

They make sun fabric which you can install easily over your Escape to cut out 80% of the sun but allow air and rain to go through. I plan on installing some next summer and leave the roof vent open and a bath window cracked.

Different parts of the country I suppose. I just know after having fiberglass campers for 11+ years in the southeast, moisture is another potent enemy. I've never heard of problems with too little moisture around here, but I have personally had to deal with mold, mildew, etc.,... Those will ruin your day, and damage much more.

I am really fortunate when it comes to trailer storage. 32 miles from our house they have these big old limestone caves that were mined out 40 and 50 years ago. You give one day’s notice that you are bringing or picking up your trailer. A pilot car leads you about half a mile in to a central staging area on the other side of a steel fire door. The trailer is about 125 feet down in low humidity at a constant 66 degrees. It comes out looking and smelling like new. All this for $75 a month. Loren

Loren will have the only surviving Escape trailer after the Apocalypse.

Apocalypse

Loren ain’t getting ahead of me, I’m gonna start diggin tomorrow. Actually I had a cousin who lived in KC Mo who stored stuff there too. He passed away but his 58 Edsel with 25,000 miles on it lived on.
