Is anybody in manning park now?
Our son just called us- he completed the PCT!! But of course USAA changed horses from Mastercard to Visa and his card no longer works. If anyone is out there who can help I would be very grateful.

He has coverage- just no $$. The lodge took our Visa and is setting up an account for him to at least eat there. He catches a bus at 2 AM for Vancouver.

Can you wire him money - good old Western Union? Sorry to hear your son is in a bit of a pickle. Wish we were not six hours away!

Thanks for that Paul/Jan! As well to Don (dfandrews) for the call wondering if it was Manning Park near Santa Barbara. The Lodge isn't a bank and doesn't do Western Union. As so many PCT hikers finish there am a little surprised there hasn't been this situation happen before with some kind of work around. We opened the envelopes from USAA and of course the card stopped today!
We're of course mostly happy and relieved he made it after a week not hearing from him and seeing the weather changing. Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) runs 2650 miles from Mexico to Canada. Our son started 4/1. The youngest hiker this year finished a few days ago with his mom. He is 9 and they started 3/20.

Wow! Traveling along I-5, through the Sierras, Crater Lake and more, we see many PCT hikers. What a lifetime experience. I am amazed a 9 year old could do this hike in this day and age and in great time! Glad you heard from your son and all is well.

Congratulations to your son.
We live in BC but are an 11 hour drive away- sorry we can't help.
Manning Park as you know is small and somewhat in between here and there.
Here is a condensed version of hiking the PCT

Thanks all, knew it was a stretch that one of you were there; from photos he just sent I see snow in the trees.
Got him to the airport this AM and that was a challenge too as taxis won't take a credit card over the phone. Finally I found the app eCab taxi and was able to use that to order and pay for a cab to the airport.

Great photo. Still smiling after that long trek ending in snow.
A hiking achievement to be proud of with memories to last forever.

Wow and double wow! And a terrific picture to boot. Glad he's safe and enroute home. Thank you for calling on the forum to help. I'm sure that many of us would have been glad to step in had we been closer.
Congratulations to your son!
