Re: is there an easier way to hitch the trailer?

You may want to try putting your park brake on just enough to prevent the vehicle from moving once the hitch is in line with the ball. The play in the transmission may be enough to cause misalignment. Also check the receiver for grease/grit build up.

Re: is there an easier way to hitch the trailer?

I'm with Brad & Shay as to posting pics & words -- we have the same coupler on our 17A, and I don't know if it would be worse to be a long way from home & unable to couple, or in the same place & unable to uncouple. Also, Murphy's umpteenth law:anything that can go wrong will.

Hope your fix is easy, and you can start enjoying again!

Re: is there an easier way to hitch the trailer?

Hi All,

I am going to post all pictures tonight once I am back at home, those about how to fix and my bent coupler. Looking at those it looks like a rather easy fix, if you have such a hammer on hand. Unfortunately I have to ask a shop to do it for me since I don't have such a tool. According to Reace it is only the upper part of the coupler with the teeth; the coupler itself is still coupling fine around the ball.

Re: is there an easier way to hitch the trailer?

I finally understand the "teeth" after seeing the above series of photos. This will be very usefull for those of us with the newer style hitch.

Moderator: Perhaps this should be put into a thread of its own since the current title does not do justice. Something like Couple Repair On All Models Starting 2010. Can a split be done?

Gerda keep us informed if the fix will work. That is some hammer required. Surprised you did not have one of those laying around.

I guess you have to be there.

Glad it's not me doing the fix...

Hi: gharms... Glad you are getting some help to re align your coupler!!! Maybe this thread should be transfered into "Escape News" section for future reference by others. Alf p.s. it looks like more than a 2lb. sledgehammer
