Leakfest

Must be our turn. Left Fl and traveled up to Fancy Gap Va for a few days. Gotta get our Opie fix.
Set up and shortly after Karen says the floor in the bathroom is wet. Somehow the connection to the back of the toilet loosened and water was pouring out. I used the toilet shutoff valve for the night and put a cup by the sink for water to flush with. I just tried to tighten it and no way my hands will fit back there. So tomorrow I'll clean the tank and loosen the toilet enough to get at the fitting.
Found two more leaks last night. Under the kitchen sink was dripping, found that when i pulled a box of food out and found it half full of water. And the pump connection came loose again.
None of these leaked last time so the trailer must not like the bumpy roads traveled to get here.

Since we will see you at the Davy Crockett at the end of the week I sure hope you can keep your powder dry in case a “bar” wanders into camp. Looking forward to meeting you and Karen.

I guess i should have loaded up the cannon made out of a truck axle years ago.
Shop teacher brought some powder in ( smokeless ) and we fit it and some paper and a 3/4 inch ball bearing in.
We fired it at a big pine out back and near as we could tell the bearing was about 7 inches in.
Something that would not happen today.
The noise alone would have skeered a bar.

You are right about that. Explosions, fire, hot iron were all part of chemistry and shop classes back in the day. We won’t get into the extracurricular activities that involved a bolt, car antenna and crudely carved frame and a box of rubber bands. Zip A dee doo dah.

A metalwork teacher year's ago had some of his senior students building .50 caliber black powder rifles as a project. A friend and I used his shop at night and made ourselves ones also. We used to have a contest to see who could load the fastest and blow up a junk toilet.

Great fun but definitely not something any teacher could do these days.

Then there was the 1 inch bore cannon built in the engineering shops at UBC and the 12" x 12" wood block that an anvil stood on. Oh wait, I'm sworn to secrecy on that one.

Hope the weather stays like this. Feels good to be outside in the 50s.
We were wondering if Saturday the 13th was bad luck by the time I noticed water also under the bed. Today i checked all connections and other than the toilet can say the trailer is again leak free.
Will be nice to meet you folks too.

When the physics teacher saw that he was losing some of us with Boyle’s Law, Charles Law etc he introduced us to ballistics. Now fixing a leaky pipe seems manageable.
I built a kit TC Hawken .50 in 1978. Still using it today.

Yes but that did not loosen the connection. I can move it with the tip of a finger but .no way i can move it enough to stop the leak. Tomorrow after i loosen the toilet I'll be able to fix it.

Blame it on the rolling earthquake loosening stuff.

Agreed. That is the reason I fill up and run off the FW tank exclusively. If there is a leak somewhere, you'll hear the pump running and be alerted.

Glad you got the leaks figured out.

Got a PM asking what an Opie fix was .
Remember the Andy Griffith show?
His hometown Mount Airy was what Mayberry RFD was based on.
Between all the Mayberry stuff, a huge fall festival and a little rundown shack known all over as the best BBQ around so far has been fun.

Located by exit 8 Fancy Gap Va. 77 .
Noticed it highly recommended in several magazines so decided to visit.
Ambiance is not their forte. It looks like and is a rundown shack.
The BBQ pork sandwich was one of the better ones I've had.

Yep thats the place. Your wife might like the fabric outlet down pottery rd. Karen dragged me in there after some ladies told her she had to go there. A little bit of everything inside.

Are these leaks at locations where a fitting is screwed in? Are there any pex connections leaking?

Just fittings that became loose. The only one that has come loose again is the water pump fitting. It was just weeping and a small twist stopped it.
The others are new. I'll probably fit an o-ring to the water pump. I did that to the other side and it has not leaked since.

Our high school science teacher left the room, so we wired the handheld crank generator to the doorknob for his return. Fortunately it did not cause the intended zap, because the next one who came through the door was the principal! He just grinned when he saw the getup...

Our small high school's chemistry room had a back door emergency exit. Good for safety, even better for pranks. It's amazing what one can blow sky high with lead monoxide and picric acid. I don't think they even allow those compounds in high school chemistry labs anymore. Looking back, we were really lucky no one got hurt. Other than that, it was mostly just rubbing copper pennies with mercury to turn them to a silver color.
