LED Lantern / Momentous Event
I did it.
I drilled a hole.
I know some have run wires and installed an overhead LED fixture, but that was more energy than I wanted to expend.
The whole project began when my wife dropped our lantern/flashlight from the top of an eight-foot ladder.
A search on thewirecutter.com turned up the Ultimate Survival Technology 30-day Lantern ( rated best ). It has High, Medium and Low modes and will run for 30 days on Low, using three D cells.
It can sit on the table, or you can take the globe off and hang it upside down. Or at home, my wife can take it up to the attic, if she promises not to drop it. Great for playing cards, inside or out.

I was worried that the eye-bolt was too long, but the bottom of that shelf is at least an inch thick. Structural beam, methinks.

Took a lot of effort to drill through, but the drill bit was from Canadian Tire.
It swallowed most of the thread on my eye bolt. I was expecting 1/8".

It appears to be in the middle of the shelf.

Now Glenn admit it didn't it feel good to drill a hole in your trailer.

Those shelves are hollow core. Solid wood around the perimeter and hollow in the center. On units with a light there they run the wires between the top and bottom layers.

Well then, my Canadian Tire drill bit sucks. I was making so little progress that I checked to see if I was running the drill in reverse.

Maybe there's a piece in the center running front to back and you were drilling through 3/4". Still, it's soft wood and the drill should have gone through easily.
Reminds of when a friend came over to my shop to use a drill to put a hole in a fender for an antenna. Went to another area and came back about 15 minutes later and asked if I could sharpen the drill bit because he couldn't get through the fender. All I can say is it wasn't the drill bit that needed sharpening and he's never lived it down.

I was expecting it to be thin. As I drilled, making slow progress, I also wondered if there was a wire run or something important that was holding me up, but I eventually broke through. Everything still works.

Turning the drill chuck and drill bit by hand is not usually enough. Next time make sure the drill is plugged into the 120 VAC power.

Don't like red licorice. I like black. And speaking of, what happened to licorice Nibs? All I can find is cherry ( or whatever they are ).

Reminds me of the uneducated rural ethnic ( how's that for political correctness ?) who bought a chainsaw and worked all day and still only had a small pile of firewood. Took the saw back to complain. Shop owner pulled the rope and started the saw. Ethnic jumped back and yelled, "What's that noise?"
