Leveling an Escape 19'

What are some of the options in leveling side to side with the dual axle Escape? I used the B@l leveler on the single axle but it will not work. I have given some thought to having the stabilizers switched out to scissor jacks, if Reace can do this? Other than this option, what else do the dual axles have? thanks

Re: Leveling an Escape 19'

I carry a small lumber yard of 1x8's and 2x8's. All short pieces of 12-16 inches. They are easy to store, stack and create steps for the wheel. I would guess I have about 8 pieces in various widths and lengths, what ever was left around.

If I need more than two 2x8's stacked I want a different campsite. I considered nailing a combination of steps together but then I had to find a place to store it. Small pieces work best.

It has not been a big deal to fit in the proper # after backing into a spot, then pulling forward onto the boards. I guess I could have spent $50 on a couple of sets of lego blocks but it seems like a lot of money for plastic. If I forget these, big deal. They also look more natural than a colorful plastic block.

Re: Leveling an Escape 19'

We level with wood, much as Paul Braun described except that our wood is of 1 x 6s in various lengths. It is simple, cheap and works well.

The RV levels (you know, those bubble things) that came with our Escape do not give us as much information as the ones that we had on our pop-up camper. Those told us about how many inches we were off, so we could tell about how many boards to put under a particular side and get our leveling right the first attempt. On the RV levels that came with the Escape, the bubble is essentially between the lines or not, and if the bubble's outside of the lines we don't know how out-of-level we are. We can't tell how many boards to use except by trial and error, which is not my idea of fun. So we intend to shop for new RV levels for the Escape.

Some times I dig a little trench on the high side and put the wheels in it. Works well if the ground is soft. And no blocks are needed at all.

CPAharley2008

Install scissors jacks your self, it is easy and cheap, and you will like them.

I installed ours.
E-Mail me. I tried to post but it did not take.

Well,. I remember trying to back into a spot at 2:00am in the morning for about a hour. Got sort of set up crawled into the trailer and after 8hrs of sleep got up went to the washroom and on the way back to camp realized it was a pull through. Got some weird looks from the neighbors that day.

I carry about 10 2z6's that are 10" long. They work great for leveling and putting under the stabilizers.

There is lots of room between the tires. I've done the wooden block thing and I find this way of leveling our 19 very convenient.

Re: Leveling an Escape 19'

I just checked out the Lynx Levelers, and realized we had discussed them before. LINK They REALLY need to make those things in black, or any colour not so bright.
I can see that they would do the trick, but for the price, I am sticking to my 2x6's.

Re: Leveling an Escape 19'

I have those levelers in florescent orange. I considered painting them brown, but realized I would just end up leaving them behind at some camp somewhere.

Re: Leveling an Escape 19'

I hope everybody's just joking about leveling with a shovel. Yes? I'm thinking of the site damage that would accumulate if many people did this.

I talk a good line but admit that damage would occur if everyone used a shovel. Blocks or jacks are the simplest.

Re: Leveling an Escape 19'

Many sites we've been in would permit using a shovel to level without any apparent damage, because they're basically sand or gravel. I'm thinking of sites in northern BC and Yukon, especially Fort Nelson, BC, and Watson Lake, Haines Junction, and Dawson, YT.

Park-like sites with just-so landscaping would be another matter.

An advantage of the day-glo orange Lego squares is they make a good marker to back onto (or up to). The best jobs I've done of backing into stalls have involved depending on the TV mirrors and a marker where I wanted the passenger-side wheel of the trailer. A left-turning back-in, of course, requires locating the driver-side wheel.
