Levelling trailer

We have an Escape 21 which has 2 axles. To level it on an uneven surface, do both tires/ axles need to be blocked or is a block of wood under one tire/axle sufficient?

trailer levelling

Peter,
As much as possible you want to level the unit with both axles so they take the load equally. The stabilizer jacks are just that, stabilizers, not jacks.
Cheers, Matt

Check out this thread for the easiest way to level a duel axel trailer side to side.

The Anderson-style levelers are great, but it’s important to have a Plan B as they do not work in all situations. Sometimes they slip and won’t hold (wet grass, gravel, even sometimes on concrete) although the rubber mats they also sell help. Sometimes they don’t generate sufficient lift, if a site is really crooked.

We generally try the Andersons first, and if they’re a no-go we switch to LEGO-style blocks.

Agreed. While driveway camping at my Niece's house, their gravel driveway was so soft, the levers sunk into a hole rather than lift up the trailer.

However a few shallow grooves cut into the bottom side prevent slipping in most cases. See post #3 in the attached thread.

On flat pavement, you can also use one under a single tire to lift the other wheel off the ground. To change a flat, adjust the brakes, etc.

I bought the Camco curved levelers and a friend gave me a set of the Andersens. The Camco levelers work fine without trimming and they're about half the price of the Andersen levelers.. I also use a Levelmate Pro and I'm real happy with that system.

That is true, cutting some cross-cut kerfs help the Andersons bite. I did that so long ago that I forgot they didn’t come that way. They still slip sometimes though [emoji849]

I keep a four or five foot 2x6 maybe it’s a 2x8 and put the andersons on that when the ground is too soft or too uneven for the andersons alone.

I may start to cary one piece of 2x6x48" for that purpose. I already have levelers.

Maybe a piece of rubber matting will keep things from moving?

Our Andersen levelers came with a rubber mat to stop slipping. The mat has worked just about every time needed, but, of course, there was that one time we had to use our legos.

Enjoy,

Perry
