Locating an outside temperature probe

Like several of you, I have an indoor/outdoor thermometer in my trailer. Currently I have the outdoor sensor attached to the outside rear of the propane tank cover. I put it there to get it away from the radiant heat of the trailer, with the outside storage box in between. But it's not a good location because sunlight hits it on occasion.

I'd move the sensor to the inside of the cover, but I'm concerned about an electronic device being adjacent to a propane tank, thinking it might trigger a fire. Am I being overly cautious? In any event, with the furnace running, the evaporating propane in a tank would cool the tank down and give a spurious reading.

So where is a good place to put the thing on an Escape 21? I intend to fix it in place with wire and Velcro, and want to keep it out of the sun, the mud, and away from the radiant heat of the trailer if possible. I'd put it on the spare tire if the cover were white instead of black. Where else is a good location? Thanks.

Mine is inside the cover, lying on top of the tank, been there on all of my units over past 6 years. There is no spark and if your tanks were leaking you would run out of propane really quick.

FWIW,
I have one but hang it outside (the outdoor sensor) on a suction hook. That way for me it is easy to relocate, depending on where I'm staying. it is also more convenient for me to change the batteries if needed. The downside is that I have to remember it is there prior to departure.

Just curious. How does knowing what the temp is outside change your behavior?
I have indoor/outdoor remote thermometer with the outdoor sensor in the fridge and the indoor in the trailer. Car generally tells me what the temp is outside if want to know.

Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody ever does anything about it.

Not true. I get out and enjoy it, no matter what the weather is.

If u know hot hot it is from the inside of the trailer for the outside then u can take more cooling steps. I also know for me as the example, if its 28c then im ok, but if it is 30c or higher then best take cool down steps.

i would like to know outsude temp when in the trailer.

Oh yes I am.
Since there is a drought here, and per the Governor Moonbeam instructions, we're not watering the lawn.
Therefore, the lawn is no longer converting CO2 into O2.
SO, with the plethora of CO2 in my yard, the level of absorption of solar radiation has changed in my vicinity, thereby changing the dry bulb temperature of the atmosphere, here.
So there!!!

If you got the ETI tongue box of course you could use that double-sided ETI super tape and attach it to a piece of plywood and attach that to a box inside wall.

Or, you build yourself a nice tongue box like mine, then you attach your sensor to the inside with screws.

When camping knowing the outside temp is very important to me. For example, I know never to put on a parka if I see it's 70°F or higher out there.

Right now I would like to go for a walk in the rain. We have almost no rain for two months and none in sight. Very unusual for the wet coast.

I just had my fridge replaced with the two-door model, and I want to record temperature data, ambient outside temperature being part of the data.

I guess I can put the temperature sensor inside the propane tank cover as Jim did, since apparently there is no hazard in doing so.

No hazard, but wouldn't it being in an enclosed plastic box make the readings a little higher? I was thinking behind the front storage box (if you have one), in the space between the box and the trailer. Out of the sun all the time, and I presume the sending unit is waterproof.

Yes , I put some "stickum" or butyl tape and just attached it to the tank collar by the knob, if the adhesive fails it will just lay there and should not get lost. Here is a picture, you can also see my spare door key holder. The propane cover is open at the bottom, should be more accurate than inside the storage box.

Instructions for the sending unit say its moisture-resistant, but I shouldn't leave it out in the rain. I thought about locating it between the trailer and storage box, but I think that's too close to the trailer. Since I've already drilled holes in the propane cover to mount it there, I'll just move it from the outside of the cover to the inside. It's down near the bottom so the enclosed space shouldn't matter much.

I don't want to over-think this, but I always do.

Mine is in the storage box and seems to work just fine. At least the box is out of the rain.

Mine is in a plastic box attached to the bottom of the inside of the pin box (5.0TA) with Velcro. It is shaded by the overhang. There are 1/4 holes drilled behind the side and back locking tabs of the plastic container to allow accurate humidity readings. In the heaviest rain storm I have never had water get into the container, and I have run accuracy comparisons with the sensor both inside and out of the plastic container. Taking the sensor out of the plastic container for over an hour on several occasions has not changed the temp or humidity readings so I have concluded the container does not have any effect on accuracy.

We hung ours with a zip tie from the metal support bar in the optional front storage bin. Seems to be fine.

I suspended my outdoor temperature sensor under the solar panel At this location it should only measure ambient air (convective) temperature. It's open to air circulation, it's in the shade to avoid solar radiation and away from other surfaces to prevent conductive heat transfer.
