Low pressure stove question, again...

In past discussions we've seen that getting a propane stove to run off the quick connect is problematic (the typical coleman stove needs higher pressure than the quick connect provides).

Yes, there are BBQs out there that can work off the quick connect (various marine BBQs, such as the Dickinson, or modified Weber Q100s). I'll probably acquire one of those in the next few months.

But what about camp stoves? The BBQ isn't a very efficient way of boiling water for tea or coffee.

It seems most people who use a stove outside either hook up to the main propane tanks directly, or bring along a separate tank. That works, but if I've got the quick connect I'd like to use it.

I'm hoping somebody has found a solution in the last while. Has anybody found a stove that works off the quick connect?

Tent trailers (a.k.a. popups) sometimes use the same stove inside and out, but I don't think they use a special model. The ones I've seen mount a regular stove in a moveable base - you could probably get one of those bases as a replacement part, or used... and possibly even use you Escape stove.

Yeah, I wondered about getting a second 2-burner stove top from an RV parts department and building a box to hold it. That would work, but from what I see online will be quite a bit more expensive than the equivalent of a coleman stove.

Also, I have heard the Porta-Chef is suitable (with a hose change). There is a regulator at the tank end of the hose; as long as the regulator output pressure is the same as the standard RV low pressure, just replacing the hose and regulator with a straight hose (with quick-connect on the end) converts it.

I've got the three burner stove top inside and a Weber Baby Q, but I've got this: Amazon.com: Portable Cooking Stove 200310: Sports & Outdoors

The butane burner is compact, light-weight and boils water in half the time of a propane burner. When I had my tent trailer, I used the Thunder Range inside, even though I had a propane stove top. Coffee in the morning in half the time.

The downside is that it takes disposable butane canisters. But, they last quite a while because it takes no time to heat water ( or cream corn ).

I actually have modified my Q120 and my Camp Chef stove to both run off the low pressure quick disconnect but I don't like the low pressure stove; it doesn't stay lit very well in a wind and puts out way too much heat. Later I purchased a Coleman two burned high pressure stove that uses propane bottles and the stove is great but I wanted to use the big propane supply in the trailer. Subsequently, I purchased a tee to connect directly onto the 5 gallon trailer propane bottles and purchased a couple of 12' hoses to run to the stove regulator. I got the ideas from "skeena", Mike. He has a picture of his setup in his pictures.

I used a volcano stove that worked just fine on the propane remote connection by the step.

If you only need a little water for tea or coffee, we have a Jetboil that works for that. It costs, but there are little backpacker stoves that may be much less.

Our Coleman tent trailer bought new over 20 years ago had a separate outdoor stove that slid out of a side compartment, though most do just use the inside one like you mention.

I never really paid attention at the time, but I believe it was rigged for low pressure use.

The problem with this, is that these stoves do not work so great outside. The have a single row of ports around the outside of the burner, whereas the ones meant for outdoors have multiple ports. I find most that are designed for outdoor use also put out more heat.

One of my many tasks I have yet to do with the trailer, is to figure out how to rig up my Coleman stove for use with low pressure. I would likely even add another quick connect when I do.

Hmmm... I wonder if it's possible to buy the stoves intended to operate on the side of a tent trailer separately...

I can't find any online... I'll have to talk to a local RV dealer's parts department.

It's also possible that these stoves aren't low pressure. I'll have to ask about that, too.

Doug, the one on my tent trailer ways just a plain old Coleman stove on a roll out shelf.

Though I have seen BBQ's that mount on a rail on the side of the trailer. I often like to cook on the picnic table, or the table I bring, which gets set up in different places depending on the site.

We have a Martin stove that is very powerful and it can be used inside our outside.

That does look like an interesting stove, Michele. A bit bulky, but solid looking. Having no windscreen could be a bit of a problem in many places I camp though.
