Manliness and Canoes

For sure, lots of people do tend to worry to much about stuff. I know I tend to err on the side of not worrying, but hey that's life.

Anyone wanna come whitewater canoeing with us this weekend. No worries, just big wet cold bumps on a river.
Here are some shots from a couple years ago of the same stuff we are going to run this weekend.

My brother and nephew

A couple friends

My son Ethan and me

Manliness and Canoes

Nice pics. Makes me wanna grab my kayak and hit the whitewater too. This time of year is perfect for catching some spring melt runoff rapids.

Jim - Can't help but notice that you and the others are wearing "skirts" - Where's the manliness & danger in that?

We call them "decks" here - I always thought "skirts" were the things on kayaks.

Sure wish I could join you Jim - looks like a blast. (I'll be putting the inside bit of fiberglass on my canoe instead).

Great photos!

I have a video to show you guys at Merritt. I'd post it, but I can't even get it into iMovie.

I'm sticking to lakes now.

Oops... My bad. Per Wikipedia "spraydeck" is commonly used for both canoes and kayaks although here in the US, kayak spraydecks are typically referred to as "sprayskirts" but not canoes.

Great pics Jim! I've limited my kayaking to when the air and water warm a little, but maybe I need to invest in some proper clothing and get out a little more. Looks like fun to me : - )

Like Dirk alluded to, that is a spray deck, but the part that tightens around us to keep us moderately dry, is called a skirt.
And Dirk, looking forward to seeing some more shots of your canoe build. I did finally decide on a boat to build and have the plans. I might be picking up the cedar on my trip to Merritt.

This is me in skirts (ok, a dress)

Pretty cute, eh!!!!

I didn't realize that Jim made a surprise appearance at the Escape Debutante Ball in Sault Ste Marie.
I bet Gerda, Bob, & Paul sure were surprised when he & his entourage showed up.

No sense locking my door - not sure I'll ever be able to sleep again.

Jim - I'll take a few shots of the canoe tonight.

Can you believe you slept safely in the same room as me for a few nights?

Maybe this shot of me will lessen your worries.

Nice shot from the ski trip Jim! Was that day 3 or 4? Maybe the overland section?

Lack of oxygen always assists with sleep......
