Maxx fan

Hello! I have an Escape 2010. The Maxx fan open/close knob no longer works. I have to pull out the screen and manually lift or lower the vent hood. Not good. I have tried to troubleshoot, but cant see what is wrong. Any ideas?
Thanks!!!

With an 8 year old unit, it may need repairing? If you go to the manufacturer, they may have a parts list, or maybe time to upgrade to the newer, improved, remote unit.

Maybe looking at the parts schematic might help. Our lifting arm broke. See thread below. You can get parts but ended up just replacing the fan because I wanted the smoke cover anyway.

Could also be the manual lift operator (#16M on diagram in thread)
Etrailer has it, but it sounds like the whole fan needs to come apart to replace.

Is the crank shaft stripped? I didn't like butting my head against the crank on mine so I removed the crank and in an RV parts store found a friendlier large plastic knob that matched up.

Oh, wait - that wasn't the maxifan - it was the manual vent where the AC goes. Never mind.

Dunno if the 2010 version had the thermostat feature - if not, I would just upgrade to a new unit with the smoke cover. Much brighter than the old ones. Remote is also great, but don't know it's as useful in a 17 as a 21.

Our 2010 5100K MaxxFan had the thermostat feature. I've attached the MaxxFan matrix so anyone considering one understands the differences between model numbers. To get the smoke lid and all the same features I jumped to the 6200K. Personally I think if you can easily reach to the ceiling height of your trailer that the remote is overkill, but I respect if someone wants to just lay in bed and adjust the fan...

what i think is the problem and the one I had is, if you leave the fan cover open or even partway cracked open and back end of trailer is parked in the direction to receive high winds for a considerable time as in off season storage I think the wind breaks the racket crank mechanism, I think the hood is a lousy design being too large to be fitted with the off market fan hood covers. 2011 Escape 15

Was it locked in position?

Pull to unlock prior to turning. Rotate Knob
clockwise to Close Vent Lid; Rotate Knob
counter-clockwise to Open Vent Lid. Push
“IN” to lock when Vent Lid is open or closed.
It may be necessary to slightly rotate the
knob to properly align it while pushing it up
to lock.
