Hi Bob . The crack I found was at the rear of the cover and it was cracked . The tape seems to be holding it together . Great stuff , had on hand from the solar install . Pat

Jim is the smoke cover on the outside ? When we had other RV's the smoke covers lasted longer then the white . They went over the Vent covers so you could open them during the rain . If outside cover what is best place to purchase ? Pat

maxxair fan issues

I pulled the fuse on the Maxxair Fan, and it was reset and started working again. I pulled the fuse off again and then installed the regulator ( which was set to 12.0 volts) in line. I think this will be the solution to my problem. I will keep an eye on it.

I am wondering about these issues with solar charging affecting some of the appliances with over voltage. Is this an issue with the factory solar setup or is it an aftermarket problem? Or both?

The smoke cover replaces the white opaque stock cover. At night time I found that the stock cover acted like a moon, it attracted any outside light and brought it inside. The smoke cover does not do that. I still have the original in my garage.

Yes, it seems that something has changed either with the solar of with the fan.

It has to do with RV component manufacturers not making the electronics robust enough to handle normal battery charge voltages.
The Suburban SW6DE, Maxxfan vent fans, and the Atwood (Dometic) AFSAD12 all have max voltage ratings below the voltage that the converter / solar chargers put out. The 2017-2018 LED lights that Escape used fails with just battery voltage (Escape stopped using these in late 2018).
Model Volt Range
Dometic 2554/2663 9.6-18
Suburban SW6DE 10.5-13.5
2017-2018 LED light <=12
Maxxfan 7000K 10.6-13.7
Atwood AFSAD12 10.5-13.5
Dometic 9500 10.5-15.5
Not all the devices listed fail at the max voltage - some have better tolerances that allow them to operate at higher voltages. But sadly, not all do and they either fail within the warranty period or in the case of my Maxxfan, shortly after.

Hi Pat. We had to cancel out, we were homeless for 5 weeks and lived in the trailer at the beach and Flying Flags until escrow closed on the new house. Were back at it now! Planning for Osoyoos. You going?

Thanks. Our 21 was finished the end of November and we are picking it up early May so I do not know what kind of LED lights are in it yet. I think I will order a few of those regulators and install them when we get back home. Even if something is under warranty I don't want it to fail while camping somewhere.

Question. Hard to replace?? Im good at swapping stuff out but not replacing boards or heavy duty electrical stuff.

Greg: I replaced our entire fan when the lifting arm broke. I wanted the smoke cover anyway so looked at it as an opportunity to upgrade with spare parts from the old fan set aside. It is a very easy swap if you have clear access to the roof. I went with the 6200K model, no remote, smoke cover. Since the receiving flange on the roof can remain in place the new fan just drops in and is secured with four screws. (Just a heads up that you may notice that the new receiving flange is designed slightly different, but that is not an issue as a new fan works with the existing flange.)

Got mine too, getting a chance to install it is another matter. Need to move it out to the driveway once the yard firms up. Might need to contact them again and see if there are instructions somewhere.

Bob, you are going to need a helper to reach the rear bolts that hold the cover on the flange. My E19 was narrower than your 5.0 but then again you have longer arms than mine...
