More Bed Stuff

In the process of removing the mattress and drying out the bed after my husband's trip to the Olympic Peninsula (see Wet Bed thread), he found that the OSB (plywood bed base) was pretty severely bowed. I don't know if it was because of the moisture or the amount of weight on that side of the bed . Sorry I didn't get a photo of that. Bruce looked under the bed and found that the bed supports do not go all the way back to the back trailer wall but cantilever out from the front portion of the bed assembly.

He jacked up the bed base to make it level and built the supports shown in the photos below. The first photo was taken through the hatch outside. The second photo is taken from inside the trailer, through the under bed doors. I don't think there will be any bowing from now on. 8) Also there is plenty of room for the plastic storage containers I'd been keeping under there.

Not sure if this is still the design used for the under support of the bed.

p.s. What is the metal rod with the loop on the end? We keep it under the bed but not sure why

Re: More Bed Stuff

Nice job on the repairs, guys.

The metal rod is to unlock and lock the awning.

Nice little holder, Alf!

We use the awning but so far haven't used the rod to open it. Nice to know it's there, though, for when we can't reach the loop anymore...

Alf might hurt one of his digits wearing those ballet slippers and then we'd have to call a toe truck!!!!

Isn't the rod used to open and close the awning brake for those folks under 6 feet?

Hi: Laura & Rick...You got it!!! It's also important for us 5.0 owners with the original style awning on the roof line, and axle lift. It's a lot taller over the door and I use the rod to snag the black loop to unroll the awning!!! Thats why I attached the nylon cable ties to the screen door frame, 'cause that's where I use the rod...and not under the bed!!! Alf
