My Sangean radio is an odd ball in that the batteries are installed with both positives at the same end.
Had to replace my Uniden radio battery pack and it wouldn't work, even though everything was as it should be. I inserted a piece of plastic from the package the new battery packs came in between the radio case and battery pack and that was all that was needed to make contact.
Rubber pencil eraser to clean contacts often helps.
When my Sirius boom box quit, I opened it up as best I could and liberally sprayed electrical contact cleaner into it. Works now.

Apple batteries are similar, in their bluetooth mouse and charger, batteries are placed with positive up and negative down with a little spring ball bearing keeping tension.

Remote batteries are changing as we speak.

Also, a little vinegar removes corrosion. A small amount on a Q-tip. It works well on car batteries, (followed by a tiny dab of baking soda?).

But, I’d try the eraser first.
