New Escape owner...questions

we're taking delivery of our 19ft Escape Trailer this June 2011 and we can't wait. We're making some modifications to customize. Just standards like materials, countertop, lightfixtures but I'm curiouse about the washroom...has anyone made any modifications to theirs and if so what were they? I'm not keen on the look of the plastic molded insert but perhaps I just need to get used to it...?

Wood2011

I installed a fibreglass one piece shower and tub combination, (Had to build the house around it) in our home ten years ago, it still looks like new and is easy to keep clean.

You just have to make sure you do not use abrasive cleaners, no dutch cleanser or any products of that nature.

At this point I don't think it owes me anything, so if it ever does get chipped or scratched, I would replace it rather than repair it

It's actually quite wonderful. After showering, just wipe it down (I use a chamois cloth) and it stays shiny and clean. Only thing we've added are a suction cup mirror/TB holder/razor holder, and a couple of towel hooks (3M adhesive - removable) behind the curtain. Oh yes, we also added DriDeck tiles to the floor, and cover them with a rug except when showering. LOVE them!

Re: New Escape owner...questions

Wow, Hokie Escape has done major improvements to his shower/tub combination, at least in comparison to me. I added the drideck flooring, courtesy of West Marine, and used a strip of velcro to wrap around the shower curtain to keep it raised and out of the way. It is now at the peak of efficiency.

We used the shower once and it was great having it. As you might tell, using it one day out of 45 camping days this past season, it is not integral to our experience. The sink gets used with great regularity and you can trust the throne is the highlight of the experience. Not only nights, but those cold mornings or wet days, it is wonderful.

Not much decorating can be done in a wet bath. Colorful towels maybe? and a loud/colorful shower curtain. To me, it's a room for necessities/form and function. With the door closed, who knows what it looks like? One thing being all molded fiberglass, you can literally hose down the walls!

Is the bath molded fiberglass?

Donna

Your reply made me think. Is the shower/bath unit molded fiberglass? Or is it a plastic insert? I know it is shiny and it has some joints but I cannot say just what the material is.

Unless I'm sorely mistaken, the shower is molded fiberglass. The "throne" and sink are plastic.

Re: New Escape owner...questions

I had thought the showers were PVC, but the website says fiberglass, so that it just be.

Extra t.p.emergency roll can be kept in a plastic (lidded of course) coffee can!

Hi: Wood2011... I believe that JerryCpei had some extra reno's done to the bath for his wife. Mod's to the door, door lip, and grab bars. He might chime in to this thread. Alf

That's one more thing that's good about a wet bath.

Re: New Escape owner...questions

Hi: Wood2011...We haven't used either shower in our 5.0 yet. We use CG. showers. I have a special pair of Nike flipflops to use in the showers.
It'd be just my luck to draw the short straw and have to use the exterior shower and a plastic tote!!!

Re: New Escape owner...questions

Hi there from PEI. Not sure what you need is to require shower mod. In my case, to accommodate my wife's mobility handicap I had the entrance lip lowered 2" and had a grab bar installed inside to the left of the entrance. I have since found an unbelievable grab bar that actually suctions on to fiberglass. Using them at home as well. (Bed Bath & Beyond).
